Are you an experienced educator with a strong background in literacy and a commitment to the success of ALL students? The Essex Westford School District is seeking strong teacher leaders to serve as Literacy Coaches for grades K-5 to support the district and provide leadership school-wide in the area of literacy instruction, curriculum and student assessment.

EWSD is committed to having ALL students read on grade level by the end of grade 3 as outlined in their Continuous Improvement Plan , which is why we are hiring four new Literacy Coaches for grades K-5. EWSD believes that when we deepen our commitment to each other and to continuous growth for every one, then our practices create equitable, authentic, inclusive learning experiences that benefit all students. EWSD is also committed to equity with a focus on social-emotional learning (SEL) and fostering professional learning and teacher efficacy through Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).

We are seeking candidates with the following qualifications:
- A Masters in Education with a minimum of five years of teaching experience with a focus on literacy or comparable experience/education.
- Hold, or be eligible to hold, a valid VT Educator license in a related endorsement area. Individuals who hold a corresponding teaching license outside the state of VT shall be considered equally.
- Leadership experience in literacy instruction, curriculum and assessment.
- A strong understanding of best practices in literacy instruction and assessment at the K-5 level
- Demonstrated evidence of effective use of literacy assessment data, including collection, analysis and reporting of results
- Leadership experience in assessment and data-driven decision-making processes.
- A strong understanding of the Common Core State Standards and the pedagogical underpinnings of these standards.
- The ability to provide embedded professional development by modeling instructional techniques, observing classes, and provide feedback in a collaborative and supportive manner.
- Strong interpersonal, facilitation, communication, organizational, collaboration and decision-making skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Leadership experience with school change desirable.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred providing literacy leadership preferred.

For column placement on the salary schedule we consider credits earned after the date of your degree (bachelor's or master's) in which you received a grade of B or better. For step placement, we grant one step for every year of previous public school teaching experience for the first five years, then one step for every two years of public school teaching experience thereafter. We also consider directly related industry experience (e.g., private school, college) by granting one step for every two years of full-time experience in most cases.
