The Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a Professor of Practice in K-12 Educational Leadership. The selected candidate will prepare the next generation of education, teacher, and research leaders. We expect the successful candidate to provide intellectual leadership through teaching, mentoring, and guiding doctoral-level research in regular and executive format programs. The Professor of Practice will work alongside and collaborate with a community of education scholars committed to connecting research to practice, and with a community of practitioner-scholars committed to generating new knowledge from within and across the field.

We seek a creative and innovative candidate who thinks deeply about the challenges of implementing school improvement efforts at both school and district levels, and who has experience building professional cultures that support practitioner and student learning in a diverse range of K-12 settings. We welcome candidates committed to equity and social justice and interested in mentoring students, advocating for students, and advising student leadership initiatives. In addition, we are interested in candidates who can contribute to PennGSE’s initiatives on educational innovation, local impact, and global influence. The candidate should be practiced and skilled at negotiating the complex policy and market environments of public school systems.

The successful candidate will hold a doctorate in Educational Leadership, Management, Organizational Behavior, or a closely related field and have substantial, sustained employment experience as an educational leader. The ideal candidate will have the ability to lead and/or contribute significantly to the design of a full-time leadership development program for doctoral students, be able to draw upon theory and practice interchangeably, have demonstrated success in addressing social inequity in education institutions, have experience coaching and mentoring educational leaders, and be active in regional and national professional networks.

Professor of Practice appointments are made for five years, are subject to reappointment review at five-year intervals, and may be renewed as long as academic needs persist.

To apply, please submit a letter of application addressing your qualifications for the position, your curriculum vitae, up to 3 artifacts of practice (e.g., articles, book chapters, summary reports, conference presentations), and the names and contact information of three references to: https://apply.interfolio.com/73493

We will begin reviewing applications on February 21, 2020 and we will continue to consider new applications until the position is filled.
