Brief Description The Behavior (Transportation) Specialist is responsible for managing and overseeing programs that provide transportation assistance to students with disabilities that require intensive behavioral support.
The Behavior(Transportation) Specialist will have an understanding of special education and transportation regulations and laws, and function as the liaison between parents, LCPS Pupil Services and Support Services - Transportation Division, and schools to facilitate the safe and efficient transportation for special with disabilities.

Detailed Description The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate:
• Attends IEP meetings for students with disabilities that require special transportation.
• Works with LCPS Administrative Offices and schools to ensure students requiring special need transportation is input into Phoenix in a timely manner for Transportation to route.
• Provides leadership, manages, and conducts the specialized training program to transportation staff responsible for transporting and supporting students with disabilities.
• Provides leadership and oversight of transportation teams serving private day school and intensive program
specialized routes.
• Coordinates and organizes extended school year special needs transportation requirements.
• Manages and ensures safe and efficient transportation for students with disabilities. Maintains a close working relationship as the Pupil Services liaison with Support Services - Transportation Division staff, schools, and parents.
• Oversees parent notification of special needs intensive program and private day school routing; and receives
and responds to parent and school concerns.
• Collaborates with LCPS administrative offices and schools to coordinate the development and implementation of student and/or disability specific training for transportation employees in individual, group, and department wide settings.
• Manages and monitors special needs equipment inventory, distribution, purchasing, and maintenance.
• Serves as liaison between schools and transportation to assist with determining eligibility for and implementing transportation accommodations for students with qualifying disabilities.
• Reviews, processes, and disseminates incident reports for all students requiring special transportation.
• Provides evaluative feedback to the special need transportation team in collaboration with assigned evaluator.
Job Requirements • Bachelor's degree in special education or a related pupil services area; administrative endorsement preferred
• Three to five years of successful experience in supporting students with behavioral challenges, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and Emotional Disabilities
• Strong knowledge of behavioral principals and implementation of proactive and positive behavioral upports to students
• Exhibits an understanding of special education and transportation regulations and laws as well as policies,
regulations, standards and objectives of Loudoun County Public Schools
• Demonstrated leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary to work effectively with students,
parents, and staff
• Demonstrates strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills

Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies. Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

This is an Exempt position.
