Project Based Learning Teacher

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to be a team member of a progressive school? The Delta School teaches using human-centered design principles through project based learning. We utilize a makerspace, school garden, and our local community to complement projects that engage children in active, real world learning.

We are accepting applicants for potential 2020-2021 vacancies of all age groups PK4-12. 

Applicants must be adaptable and willing to spend a large amount of time researching, planning, and collaborating with team members. Working at The Delta School requires tossing out the idea that something is done because others do it that way. 

We need people who think big. If you’re an innovative thinker who would be energized by tackling problems through a project and finding solutions big and small you may be a good fit. At The Delta School, we are redefining what an education looks like for young people today. 

We need teachers who can make connections. You will build on a curriculum developed by faculty and make it your own. You will take an interdisciplinary and experiential approach, designing classroom experiences that use the community as a lab for learning. We are looking for teachers who see learning opportunities everywhere in the world around them and can direct students toward authentic learning. 

We expect you will learn alongside the students. Our teachers aren’t expected to be experts in all content areas that a project might require. You will have a budget to consult experts and teaching residents to lead students to develop quality solutions to real problems. You will be a model for our students, demonstrating what it looks like to be an active learner who can think critically and creatively, and communicate and interact effectively.

Teaching at The Delta School includes responsibilities in three main areas:

Classroom Instruction

• At full enrollment, teach cross-curricular to a class of approximately 18 students per class.
• Provide academic support for students outside of class time, as needed.
• Establish fair and thoughtful assessment, feedback, and documentation through monthly narrative comments for students and families.

Curriculum Development

• Develop projects to solve real world problems through the production of a system, service, product, or process using human-centered design. 
• Develop partnerships with organizations and businesses around the region, with the goal of integrating those connections into the curriculum through off-campus experiences.
• Engage in regular professional development.

Collaboration

• Be an active member of a compact teaching team.
• Execute leadership roles as assigned. Responsibilities will be assigned based on interest and skill sets and may include work in service learning, school culture, coaching, advisory, or curriculum development.
• Attend faculty meetings as scheduled.
• Actively participate in the life of the school community.
