    POSITION DESCRIPTION:

    To assist with daily food preparation in the school kitchen and serve breakfast and lunch to students.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    High school diploma or equivalent.
    Basic math, writing, communication, and reading skills.
    Basic operating knowledge of slicers, stoves, ovens, mixers, computers, steam tables, serving equipment and measuring devices preferred.

    EXPERIENCE:
    0-2 years experience in food preparation.
    Basic computer knowledge.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Daily 25% - Assist with food preparation.
    Daily 20% - Serve food to customers, meeting all portion control and sanitation requirements.
    Daily 15% - Operate a variety of equipment such as electric slicers, knives, stoves, ovens, mixers, dishwashers and computers.
    Daily 15% - Sell products and services to customers, make change and maintain appropriate records.
    Daily 5% - Wash pots and pans, mop floors and clean various equipment as required.
    Weekly 5% - Assist in putting deliveries of food and non-food items away, storing them in appropriate places.
    Monthly 5% - Attend training offered to obtain and maintain knowledge required in areas of the Child Nutrition program regulations, sanitation, safety and other skills required for the job.
    Monthly 5% - Cross train with others in kitchen to be able to fill in and perform any tasks as needed.
    Ongoing 5% - Perform other duties as assigned.

    • SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITY: This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Acts a resource for food portions, kitchen equipment use and food preparation techniques, including training, demonstrating, and answering questions.
    • JUDGMENT AND DECISION MAKING: Work is assigned by the supervisor. This position requires application of position knowledge to efficiently prepare and serve food to students and follow nutrition guidelines. Work is guided by Adams School District 14 policies and procedures. Decision making requires collaboration with the supervisor. Supervisor is always involved in decision making.
    • SAFETY TO SELF AND OTHERS: Low exposure to self to bruises, chemical burns, loss of limb or sight, disfigurement and/or fatality due to using various kitchen equipment. Medium to self and others to cuts, heat burns, fractured bones, hernia, disease, or repetitive motion or stress due to working in kitchen environment.

    • PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
    • WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
    • MENTAL FUNCTIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate, use interpersonal skills and compile. Frequently required to compute and evaluate. Occasionally required to compare, analyze, copy, coordinate, instruct, synthesize and negotiate.

    SALARY: $10.58/hour. Adams County School District 14 is a direct deposit employer. All new employees must be fingerprinted per H.B. 90-1077 at a cost of $40.00 to the employee.
