The Environmental Charter School (ECS) is looking for a highly dedicated and experienced Principal to oversee the transition of current ECS 8th graders into a new ninth grade academy in 2020-2021 and to lead the new 10-12 grade ECS high school facility starting in the 2021-2022 school year. Successful candidates must be progressive minded, and embody a can-do spirit and work ethic. For best consideration, candidates should have at least 3 years of teaching experience, preferably at the secondary level, a principal’s certification, a demonstrated track record of success in developing and implementing strategies to meet the needs of students with a variety of learning needs, and a “whatever it takes” attitude to ensure that all students succeed at a high level.

POSITION OVERVIEW

 

As a key member of the ECS administrative team and working in close partnership with the current Middle School administration (comprised of a Principal and Assistant Principal focused on 6-8 grade), the ECHS Founding Principal will help to ensure the successful transition of current 8th graders into 9th grade and aid in the creation of a world class high school team.  Additionally, the ECHS Founding Principal will help to support the ‘whole person’ development of new ninth graders and to grow their ability to systems-think in order to successfully navigate relationships, career endeavors, or personal journeys in the 21st century.  This is a 12-month position reporting to the Chief Academic Officer. 

 

Educational Background and Work Experience

 

  • Minimum of 3-5 years teaching and leadership experience at the Secondary level required

     

    Experience with High School Academies, magnet programs, or specialty high school programs preferred

     

    Experience in Environmental Literacy curricula including sustainability and systems, social justice and equity, global citizenship, or environmental engineering and sustainable design preferred

     

    Familiarity with charter schools and/or new school development

     

    Experience leading adults required

     

    Experience in the effective delivery of professional development required

     

    Principal certification

     

    Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, Master’s degree preferred

     

Compensation and Benefits

 

  • Minimum starting salary of $81,662

     

    • Compensation can include a $5,000 per year bonus for the first three school years of employment ($15,000 total) as long as the employee remains employed in this role for the three successive school years.

       

    Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-, and long-term disability insurance, generous paid time off, and participation in generous 403b retirement plan.

     

    We are willing to consider covering a portion of eligible relocation expenses for out-of-state candidates recommended for hire.
