The Syracuse City School District represents 34 schools and 4 alternative education programs and serves over 21,000 students in grades Pre K-12. 78% of SCSD students qualify for free or reduced lunch price, and approximately 20% are served by the Office of Special Education. 77% of the students in the school district are students of color.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Climate Coach has demonstrated highly effective practice in using data to drive instruction and in integrating technology effectively. This teacher will maintain a full teaching schedule AND will engage in additional responsibilities in order to build capacity of other staff members in that targeted area. A $5,000 yearly stipend will be provided to compensate for these additional duties.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Climate Coach will:
    Be a model classroom for a designated area that they have demonstrated highly effective practice; models effective implementation of district curriculum and resources. Regularly (approximately 10 hours per month) attend professional development that takes place outside of school hours as directed by school and district leaders. Provide turnkey professional development for teachers in the area of designated practice (both during Collaborative Team Planning and afterschool professional development). Facilitate data collection, analysis, and interpretation to drive instructional planning. Use protocols to lead teachers through student work analysis, instructional planning, and lesson plan design in their area of instructional focus. Lead, mentor and guide peers in planning and differentiating instruction.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
    Master's degree in education or a related subject. Knowledge of data driven instruction and unit/marking period recovery. At least three years of prior teaching experience with demonstrated evidence of high-progress student outcomes in relevant subjects. Technology proficiency and knowledge of digital learning may be required for certain assignments. Proven experience accelerating measurable student learning in urban schools (preferred). Experience adapting to and meeting the social, emotional and behavioral needs of all children.

QUALIFICATIONS:
    Minimum five (5) years of teaching experience required Minimum three (3) years of experience as a teacher leader Appropriate New York State Teacher Certification—ELA preferred Possess an entrepreneurial spirit; be flexible, willing and able to play different instructional roles at the school; and be willing to go above and beyond to meet the varied and constant needs of the students of the SCSD Excellent organizational, communication and facilitation skills Prior demonstration of exemplary attendance is expected of any candidate for hire Training and/or experience with Culturally Relevant Education (preferred) City Residents are encouraged to apply!

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to work beyond the ten-month school year and typical staff day

SALARY/SALARY RANGE:
    This position will earn a stipend of $5,000, in addition to the current Starting teacher salary per the Unit 1 Collective Bargaining Agreement. With proof of outside, related experience and college transcripts, the salary will be increased pursuant to the Unit 1 contractual agreement. Teachers who are assigned to work at schools with extended learning time will receive an additional stipend up to $5,827.
