The Promise Academy Afterschool program operates as an extension of Promise Academy day school. The program provides 500+ students in grades K-12 a safe, nurturing, and educational environment that fosters self-confidence, personal and social development. Students are exposed to a variety of fun-filled project-based learning, developmental and high-caliber enrichment activities, which include arts enrichment (e.g., performing, culinary and visual arts), tutoring, homework help, and academic intervention support, as well as health/wellness and physical fitness education. Additionally, students are engaged in leadership development activities, including student government, character education and conflict resolution, and participate in a number of team sports and recreation activities, including basketball, volleyball, and soccer.

We are currently seeking part-time Program Aides to help support general program activities for our elementary students. The Program Aides will work directly with students in an after-school setting, leading small groups in the area of arts, sports, academics, and mentorship.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work directly with elementary school students in all of their activities (i.e. homework, arts, sports, etc)
  • Assist the team with participants physical, emotional, social, moral and intellectual development
  • Create and implement activities, workshops and events for students based on their interests and with their involvement
  • Model positive behavior for the youth
  • Engage the youth in dialogue (one-to-one and group discussions) around topics of concern for their age group and developmental stage
  • Assist in the completion of homework, test, and Regents prep
  • Maintain the up keep of supplies
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualification, Skills and Knowledge Requirements
  • A commitment to the mission and programs of HCZ
  • High School diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Some experience working with students and/or at-risk youth
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Familiar with issues prevalent in underserved communities
  • Must be able to engage and motivate students
