Job Summary
The Title VI Indian Education Supervisor articulates the Indian Education Program throughout the Anchorage School District. The supervisor collaborates with tribes, tribal organizations, school-based staff, district administration, and the Native Advisory Committee to establish and manage programs that support Alaska Native and American Indian students. These programs include, but are not limited to, community events, culture, language, and academic enrichment, parent engagement, credit recovery, postsecondary opportunities, tutoring, professional development, counseling, resource referrals, and community outreach. This position hires and supervises staff and manages grants and budgets. This position reports to the Senior Director of Title VI Indian Education and Migrant Education. The position has a retirement association with the Public Employee Retirement System (PERS).

Job Requirements
The following are required:
  1. A master's degree with a major in education, social work, Alaska Native studies, public administration, tribal administration and/or governance, or a related field.

The following are preferred:
  1. An Alaska initial, professional, or master's teaching certificate or type B administrative certificate.School or program administration experience.Experience with grants management, compliance, and budgeting.Strong organizational, managerial, and analytical skills.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Articulates, facilitates, and maintains accountability for the Indian Education Program.Provides leadership for teachers, administration, tutors, clerical staff, counselors, and community counselors.Consults with tribes, principals, the public and staff concerning the needs of students.Meets regularly with the Native Advisory Committee.Manages all aspects of the Title VI Indian Education grant application and budget.Monitors services and the budget and creates reports to fulfill federal project guidelines.Administers budgetary procedures and systems for purchasing supplies and equipment.Selects, supervises, and evaluates staff members and creates program efficiencies.Identifies, develops, or adapts culturally appropriate materials.Designs and implements professional development and in-services to support curriculum and incorporates best practices, including culturally responsive pedagogy, research, academic and cultural standards.Collaborates with other district departments to achieve ASD's goals and objectives.Develops and maintains effective working relationships with Anchorage School District staff and community.

Physical /Mental Demands
The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.

Work is performed in a professional environment with a wide variety of individuals having differing functions, personalities and abilities, including working with diverse groups of people in a variety of different settings.

While performing the duties of this job the employee may be regularly exposed to a video display. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
