The Syracuse City School District represents 34 schools and 4 alternative education programs and serves over 21,000 students in grades Pre K-12. 78% of SCSD students qualify for free or reduced lunch price, and approximately 20% are served by the Office of Special Education. 77% of the students in the school district are students of color.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Dean of Students will be expected to fulfill the following responsibilities:

• Involvement in student discipline and supervising extracurricular activities
• Evidence of ability to create positive connections with students
• Development of programs to enhance student commitment to learning while promoting safety and harmony
• Establish and enforce high standards for excellence with students, teachers, and staff
• Effectively plan and take action to achieve goals and objectives under the direction of the principal
• Other duties as assigned, which may include instructional leadership (e.g., coaching, mentoring, walkthroughs) as required to meet school goals

QUALIFICATIONS:

• All candidates must be tenured Syracuse City School District teachers.
• Active member of administrative/counseling team
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Minimum three (3) years classroom teaching experience
• Prior demonstration of exemplary attendance is expected of any candidate for hire.
• Training and/or experience with Culturally Relevant Education (preferred)
• Preference will be given to those internal candidates who have participated in the Syracuse Aspiring Leadership Academy (SALA)

SALARY/SALARY RANGE:

The current starting salary for an SCSD Dean of Students is $48,500. With proof of outside related experience and college transcripts, the salary will be increased pursuant to the Unit 1 contractual agreement.
