Essential Functions and Objectives:

The Senior Manager of Community Engagement Strategy and Advocacy will lead a team that will manage and drive sensitive and visible projects that require partnerships between internal teams, external community based organizations and community leaders regarding issues pertinent to family and community experiences with Denver Public Schools. This includes parent and student concerns and leading community initiatives that harness, engage and connect the district with family and community leaders. The Senior Manager is broadly responsible for working closely with Instructional Superintendents, internal DPS departments and administrators to build positive relationships and act as a liaison between the city, district, and its family community, and will support the Associate Chief of Family and Community Engagement on special projects.

- Create opportunities to build positive relationships with students and DPS families by leveraging partnerships with non-profits, faith communities, neighborhoods, businesses, the city, and philanthropic groups to increase student academic achievement and reduce student dropout rates.

- Supports engagement for special projects such as new school/campus naming processes, SPF, community efforts.

- Provides support to the District Accountability Committee.

- Increased opportunities for staff and community serving students and families by supporting the participation of volunteer services and deepening community partnerships.

- Guide strategy and engagement with community organizations and parents in strategically identified school zones or boundaries.

- Investigates, partners, and addresses complaints of parents, parent groups, and community leaders.

- Oversee strategic development and support for all schools in priority development by researching and implementing up-to-date high impact engagement practices. Ensure effective family and community engagement supports for all DPS schools going through restart of redesign processes to provide impactful engagement strategy and tactical as it aligns to the Denver Plan 2020 goals and strategies.

- Oversee collaborative, cross-functional team relationships to establish engagement strategies and ensure a consistent message for targeted audiences (both internal and external).

- Execute timely, thorough and clear strategic engagement plans that engage all critical stakeholders, facilitate buy-in and address questions about major change initiatives.

- Work in conjunction with the Associate Chief of Family and Community Engagement to continually research and implement innovative programs and use unique approaches in the development of results driven strategies for programs, outreach, and communication to meet the diverse needs of DPS families.

- Execute protocols to manage partnerships and service agreements with partner agencies, businesses, and nonprofits providing programs and/or services at school sites.

- Brief, collaborate, and provide consulting support and thought leadership for DPS engagement with other Divisions and Departments.

- Collaborate and implement staff trainings and professional development for increased engagement skills.

- Develop overall approach and strategy to work that intersects policy or research that impacts parent rights in schools, community change, and/or BOE decisions to align with best practices about Family and Community Engagement.

- Work collaboratively with the Associate Chief of FACE and department directors, managers, and staff to establish a culture that affirms, supports, authenticates and engages families and communities.

- Oversee and monitor the progress of goals, program implementation, benchmarks, outcomes, and results each week; oversee and conduct staff performance plans and annual EPMP evaluations.

- Support data collection and program implementation across Constituency Services and Family Empowerment for FACE.

- Develop strategies for strong community and staff engagement in the design and implementation of the pilot programs to ensure collaboration across all schools in the network and alignment with district and school goals.

- Work collaboratively with FACE Department Leadership Team to develop department policies, goals, and strategic plans aligning with the Denver Plan and District priorities.

- Manage and monitor the budget for the Community Engagement Strategy and Advocacy team.

- Provide strategic development and execution of engagement throughout targeted regions in the district and ensures strong collaboration with all FACE senior leadership team members and other key Divisions.

- Developing and maintaining strong partnerships with grass tops and City Council members. Provides updates to the Superintendent's Office, Chief of Staff and Board of Education as needed.

- Support special community initiatives of the BOE and Superintendent.

- Manage systems integration for FACE.

- Brief department leadership on program data and progress towards goals.

- Ensure demographic representation by developing systems to better track demographics and culturally responsive engagement approaches that align with our DPS families and engages missing voices.

- Assist in the implementation of the goals outlined in the Denver Plan 2020 and future Plans, which outlines the objectives above and includes specific outcomes, timelines, and resource development.

- Leads the team in creating culturally relevant, transparent, and authentic engagement strategies through consultation, strategic planning, and advocacy across the district.

- Guides a community-led and district supported approach with communities through storytelling, listening to understand, and creating processes across our family of schools that ensures community is closer to decision-making.

- Guides strategy and engagement with parents, families, students, and community partners that builds relationship and trust.

Knowledge, Experience & Other Qualifications:

- 5-7 years of experience managing conflict resolution and mediation, which entailed similar duties as those outlined above.

- 3-5 years of previous management experience overseeing professional staff.

- Demonstrated experience managing and completing multiple projects (full life-cycle project planning and implementation), each with corresponding or conflicting completion deadlines, in a constantly and rapidly changing work environment is required. Demonstrated experience managing implementing original research and analysis in order to consider, implement, and maintain projects, initiatives, technologies, and objectives. Demonstrated working experience with a variety of computer hardware and software, including PC and Mac-OSX operating systems, and various proprietary systems and technologies. Demonstrated effective and diplomatic oral and written communication skills, with an emphasis on communications with students, parents, collaborative decision making teams, and the community. Demonstrated experience performing as an effective leader and team player, and recognizing and resolving conflicts or potentially controversial situations through diplomacy.

- Candidate must have daily access to a vehicle and possess a valid Colorado driver's license.

Education Requirements:

- Bachelor's Degree in related field required.

- Master's Degree in related field preferred.
