Associate Dean , AELLC

Pay Rate: Commensurate with education and experience

Position Objectives:

The Associate Dean in the Adult Education and Language Learning Center (AELLC) is responsible for hiring, training, and development of instructors. The associate dean will support the Dean in strategic planning and in implementing ongoing program changes. The associate dean will also work closely with the Instructional Specialists in each of the four AELLC programs which are:
  • Career Readiness ESL aka "CRESL" for the Colorado network of refugees and asylees - a grant-funded project from the Office of Refugee Resettlement;
  • English For Work classes funded through WIOA Title II federal grant;
  • Pre-Academic and Community English (for students seeking post-secondary education, life-skills/job-skills, parent/teacher, civics, and community ESL)
  • High School Equivalency (HSE) preparation courses


Essential Functions:
  • Provide mentoring and support for teachers

o Observe classes

o Review lesson plans

o Ensure teaching methodologies and approaches align with outcomes and objectives of the programs

o Manage appraisal process for faculty and specialists

o Regularly meet with all teaching faculty
  • Hi re and train new teachers
  • Maintain an accurate list of all part-time and full-time faculty. Prepare for and lead regular all faculty meetings
  • Manage program faculty and ensure timely submission of required paperwork, projects, and assignments for program administration and accreditation
  • Design, facilitate, and track ELA department (faculty and staff) professional development activities
  • Assist the Dean and Program Administrators in tracking, analyzing, and reporting on student data (for grant reporting, internal quality assurance, etc.)
  • Keep current with best practices and current trends in adult education, ELA methodologies, and assessment
  • Provide input to Instructional Design Team to create, document, implement, and assess:

o Departmental new faculty and staff orientation process

o Student orientation process o Curriculum review

o Materials Selection

o New class creation
  • Support Dean to develop and maintain program schedules and course compliance in alignment with internal and external requirements. Ensures course listings and content are accurate.
  • Work with dean to represent the program and school both internally and externally.
  • Act as liaison between teaching faculty and senior management

Edu cation & Experience:
  • MA in TESOL or related field, or 10+ years of teaching
  • Minimum of 2 years experience administering ESL programs or similar
  • Experience in curriculum development, teacher training, and assessment planning
  • Experience managing a team, preferably supervising a team of teachers
