    Position Description

    Full time/full year non-certified Early Head Start Lead Teacher, infant/toddler classroom at WECC-Windham High School site. Responsible for the classroom operations. Must: have compassion and understanding for the needs of children and families from economically and culturally diverse backgrounds; encourage self-esteem and independence for the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical needs of each child; implement program consistent with Head Start Performance Standards and NAEYC criteria; implement programming that is consistent with Windham Public Schools mission, vision, code of ethical conduct, policies and procedures

    Essential Functions:
    • Adhere to the Connecticut Code of Professional Responsibility
    • Ensures safety of students
    • Implements the Windham Board of Education and administrative policies, rules, regulations and directives
    • Manage the classroom and individual student behavior to maintain an advantageous learning environment
    • Prepares lesson plans that achieve clear objectives, uses appropriate techniques, and serves the needs of all learners in the classroom
    • Maintains accurate and complete records as required
    • Attends parent/teacher conferences
    • Assess student learning on continual basis and identifies areas of intervention if needed
    • Follow the scope and sequence of the instructional program as defined and approved by the Windham Board of Education
    • Maintains respect for confidential information
    • Keeps parents up-to-date of student progress through use of interim reports, report cards, and/or conferences
    • Design instruction to meet the needs of all students through both individual and small group settings as needed
    • Design clear and specific learning assessments
    • Maintain a positive learning environment that encourages open communication between the teacher and learner
    • Maintain a positive school community image that encourages ethical student behavior
    • Maintain ongoing communication with parents
    • Other duties as assigned by Administrator and/or Superintendent


    Qualifications/Certificates:
    • Bilingual(Spanish/English) preferred.
    • Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education plus two years relevant work experience.
    • Experience working with a diverse student demographic
    • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Windham Board of Education may find appropriate


    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Knowledge of early childhood education including developmentally appropriate practices Knowledge of child growth and development.
    • Experience working with families to support early learning Working Conditions: Work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team.
    • Ability to foster and facilitate learning and classroom management
    • Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
    • Effective, active listening skills
    • Ability to work effectively with others
    • Organizational and problem solving skills
    • Excellent public relations skills
