PURPOSE OF JOB: The Pre-K Social Emotional Interventionist is responsible for providing trauma-informed educational opportunities for Pre-K staff and social emotional behavioral support for Pre-K students. He/she will collaborate with the classroom staff, parents, and program administrators to create behavior plans that support students in the development of the self-regulation skills required for success in Kindergarten.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:

Assist classroom teachers in the identification and development of individual behavior interventions to support social and emotional growth of Pre-K students.

Provide social emotional programming to students in Pre-K classrooms.

Collect and analyze data regarding student behaviors and remain current on age-appropriate self-regulation support programs.

Present professional development for administrators and classroom staff on behavior support and intervention and other topics as needed.

Develop and maintain working knowledge of community resources available to assist families and program staff in supporting student social and emotional growth.

Maintain effective working relationships with parents and students, provide frequent and meaningful parental communication, and develop proactive partnerships between the parent and school to support social and emotional growth of Pre-K students.

Maintain accurate, complete and confidential student files; complete required paperwork in an accurate and timely manner as required by KCPS, DESE and other monitoring entities.

Act as a positive role model for students, parents, and program staff, model ECH best practice, adhere to professional and ethical standards.

Work in a collegial and collaborative manner with peers, school personnel and the school community to promote and support the mission and goals of the Early Childhood Department and KCPS.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's Degree or higher in early childhood/elementary education, counseling, social work, psychology, sociology, or a related field.

Minimum of three years of successful experience working with young children and their families.

Demonstrated knowledge of trauma informed practice, behavior support techniques and social emotional learning.

Possess an enthusiastic, dynamic personality that inspires and motivates young children.

Demonstrated ability to work in a non-judgmental, culturally sensitive, and empowering manner with children from diverse backgrounds.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience working with families in urban school districts.

Training in Conscious Discipline, Trauma Smart, Second Steps, or other social emotional programming.

Missouri Teaching Certification – Birth to 3rd grade.
