SUMMARY: The Senior Director of School Development functions as a member of the K12 School Development Team in establishing new public school opportunities domestically. The Senior Director also serves as a liaison to K12's School Services, Fuel Education, Government Relations, and especially Career Readiness Education (CRE) teams on issues associated with the development and launch of all new programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties.
• Meets with elected officials, policy makers, economic development offices, State and federal Department of Labor officials, employers, union leaders, school administrators, higher education officials, industry partners, and others as needed to promote K12 programs and specifically those emphasizing Career and Technical Education (CTE);
• Meets with and cultivates CTE champions, especially including major employers. Speaks on education panels, and offers expert testimony at legislative, regulatory, and school board hearings. Develops partnerships among many players each of whom seeks to offer innovative, enriching CTE programs to students;
• Identifies and develops new school and program opportunities, particularly among district public schools and charter schools nationwide. Leads all aspects of contract negotiations while developing and drawing upon strong collaborative working relationships with K12's Regional School Leaders, School Services, Legal, Finance, HR, and other key departments. Keeps all stakeholders apprised of existing opportunities and their status through regular school development pipeline calls;
• Works with the School Development, CRE, and School Services teams to explore how K12's CTE offerings can be developed and evolved in way that meets parent and student needs, and can be repeated in other sites;
• Reports to the School Development, School Services, and Senior Management Teams on new business opportunities and school launch issues;
• Informs K12's decision-making process surrounding new business opportunities by tracking and presenting key criteria and developing issues (this includes everything from researching often complex funding formulae in specific State s to keeping abreast of political changes, to understanding evolving policy debates);
• Assists the CRE, School Services, and Government Relations teams with the activities associated with the development of new schools, ensuring where possible that our opportunities cohere as much as possible to agreed-upon instructional models, operational structures and best-practices;
• Works closely with the School Services team to facilitate the transition from development activities to school launch;
• Assists with marketing efforts to recruit students for new and existing programs especially by identifying local champions, opinion-shapers, partner organizations, and other community-based leaders and organizations;
• Where applicable, help to identify and train local Board members for new charter school proposals.
Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor's degree in Education, Public Administration or related field of study AND
• Eight (8) years of school leadership experience including experience leading alternative schools designed for students who have not had success with the standard public education system and/or successful business development experience OR
• Equivalent combination of education and experience

OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Demonstrated understanding of the different learning styles, motivations and needs of students in alternative schools;
• Proven track record of developing a positive, empowering culture in alternative schools;
• Results oriented with an ability to set/accept challenging goals and targets, achieve results, overcome obstacles and accept accountability;
• Demonstrated ability to identify and develop achievable business opportunities within complex environments;
• Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to inspire an audience but also effectively drive discussions to conclusions resulting in contracts;
• Excellent communication skills - written, verbal and presentation - in order to educate and persuade others on issues;
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel); Web proficiency to perform required research;
• Ability to travel 80% of the time;
• Ability to pass required background check.
