Under the direction of the Director, Student Wholeness, the Education Specialist II provides expertise to support the design and implementation of strategic initiatives, programs, and activities related to student wholeness, integrating social and emotional learning (SEL), restorative practices (RP), and other wholeness-oriented approaches, such as trauma-informed practice. This work is grounded in and defined by a commitment to promoting equity of opportunity and outcomes for students across the district. The Education Specialist II will serve as a champion for the work of the wholeness office, both by speaking and writing with knowledge and passion about the work and by modeling a personal commitment to the core SEL competencies and restorative approaches.

Essential Functions

• Provides project management for assigned student wholeness initiatives and programming, ensuring thoughtful planning and design, high-quality and on-time execution of deliverables, and clear communication and reporting in line with internal and external requirements.
• Leads the design and facilitation of high-quality learning opportunities for adults (including district and school-based staff, partners, and families) related to wholeness (i.e., SEL, RP, trauma-informed practice, positive behavior/discipline frameworks and strategies).
• Conducts research and consultation, provides technical expertise, and supports planning and implementation of strategies related to wholeness-aligned school climate improvement, the integration of SEL into academics, and explicit instruction of SEL.
• Provides coaching, consultation, and other support to schools to bolster implementation of wholeness-related practices, with a focus on integrating SEL and RP throughout the school;
• Works in collaboration with Teaching and Learning, Office of Special Education/Related Services, College and Career Readiness, Family and Community Engagement and others to ensure that schools have the support they need to create a clear, tiered continuum of social and emotional supports for all students.
• Creates and develops tools and materials to support learning and communications related to wholeness.
• Tracks, analyzes, and reports on relevant school- and district-level data to inform planning and implementation as well as continuous improvement, learning, and evaluation.
• Supports the development and adoption of district-level policies and practices that promote wholeness for both students and adults;
• Develops strong relationships with relevant offices and organizations, while also helping to build understanding of and support for wholeness-related initiatives among families and in the community.
• Represents the Wholeness team, Office of Whole Child Services and Support, and the district in meetings and conferences, as needed.
• Cultivates a learning-oriented work environment and models a positive, growth-oriented outlook while actively fostering the social emotional learning and well-being of other team members.
• Demonstrates leadership in learning about research and best practices related to social-emotional learning, restorative practices, trauma-informed care, and related topics.
• Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school boards policies and the professional standards.

Maximum Salary 100999.00
Minimum Salary 77059.00
Desired Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in education, social work, public health, or related field. Master's degree preferred. Degree must be from an accredited college or institution.
• A valid Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Advanced Professional Certificate (APC).
• Three years of experience in a related field required.
• Experience implementing wholeness-related programming in schools/districts, including expertise in social-emotional learning and restorative approaches.
• Experience in designing and facilitating high-quality, participatory professional learning experiences for adults;
• Demonstrated experience in using data to drive problem analysis and solutions in schools.
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills that ensure effective team-building and collaboration.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to make compelling presentations.
• A demonstrated personal commitment to ensuring that every child in City Schools receives an excellent education and reaches their full potential in life.
• Highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
