Software Asset Management (SAM) Analyst (Internship)

About this role...

As a Software Asset Management Analyst in NWEA Service Operations and Information Technology department you will be involved in the management of software acquisition, compliance, maintenance renewals, life cycle planning and costing. This is a 3-month internship assignment, with possibility for assignment extension. Work hours can be flexible.

This role is consultative in nature, heavy in analysis, interpretation, and advisory responsibilities. Use of data gathered via IT Asset Management (ITAM) related toolsets, in addition to Software Asset Management (SAM) knowledge of specific license rules, NWEA agreements, processes, current and future environment, and other relevant inputs in order execute and mature the SAM Program to reduce financial and security risks.

Your next challenge...

  • Communicate to and assist all business units in understanding and following the SAM policies, standards and procedures
  • Ensure that any changes to the SAM methods are communicated to the proper stakeholders before they are implemented
  • Assist others on the Procurement team in developing and managing strategic sourcing strategies for the organization
  • Act as lead for Software Asset Management function, educate on specific and tangible benefits to the audience, articulating needs and cooperation cross departmentally
  • Heavy use of Software Asset Management tool and other internal resources, Responsible for data quality, completeness, creating cross department linkages, and conducting quality checks
  • Conduct formal vendor audits or internal audits acting in a lead role in data analysis, articulate actions for risk mitigation, and audit results
  • Identify processes improvements, data improvements, gather evidence for use in business cases while performing detailed work with all required SME areas to develop process / data, communications, and education / training
  • Provide optimization recommendations to the business inclusive of infrastructure changes, contractual or licensing options, and tracking measurement of progress
  • Analyze and advise on risk and opportunity within software agreement structure during negotiations and audits from a software asset view while considering use, deployment, and infrastructure of the environment
  • Develop trusted relationships with relevant businesses, including legal, procurement, finance, tax, infrastructure, engineers, architecture, project management, development, data or process owners, IT operations, business users, vendors / resellers, etc.
  • Act as team Subject Matter Expert (SME) educating and guiding as appropriate
  • Support business analysis on technology initiatives that relate to the control of software within the organization.

Role Essentials:
  • Conceptional knowledge of Information Technology
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven researching ability
  • IT Asset Management and Discovery Tools experience
  • Experience interpreting licensing terms and conditions
  • High degree of experience and confidence with analysis support using excel

Education and experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance or Information Technology
  • IAITAM or ITIL certification is a plus
  • Knowledge of Microsoft licensing programs is highly preferred
  • Knowledge of SaaS licensing models
  • Some experience in Open Source software risks and opportunities
