Position Outcomes:
The Athletic Trainer is responsible for the evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for student athletes. This person provides direct athletic training services to students to ensure the care, treatment and prevention of injuries to student athletes.

General Responsibilities:
This is work involving professional assistance for the athletics office. There is considerable contact with staff, students, parents, and outside agencies. This employee works within established guidelines, exercising strict confidentiality, initiative and independent judgment in performing duties and in keeping informed of procedures and requirements. He/she must possess the skills to react to a medical emergency. This position also requires the employee to be aware of and maintain the confidentiality of information involved.

Qualifications:
  • College degree in a related field; master's degree preferred.
  • Experience as an athletic trainer, preferably with high school athletes.
  • Valid National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification.
  • Valid State of Illinois Athletic Trainer license.
  • Valid AED and CPR certifications.
  • Ability to move around frequently in the training rooms and other areas of the buildings and on athletic fields.
  • Ability to frequently lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and distinctly with staff, parents, outside agencies, and students.

  • Position Expectations :
  • Assists the head athletic trainer and the athletic director by:
    a. selecting, recording inventory for and maintaining equipment and supplies;
    b. coordinating athletic health care with team physician, school nurse and athletic office;
    c. maintaining accurate records of all athletic injuries and treatments rendered; and
    d. supervising the athletic training facility.
  • Assists students by:
    a. providing treatments and reconditioning to athletes during the school day or practice time;
    b. selecting and fitting their protective equipment;
    c. providing on-site injury care and appropriate follow-up;
    d. applying protective or injury-preventive devices, such as taping, bandaging or bracing;
    e. assisting in providing information on nutrition, hygiene and chemical awareness; and
    f. notifying parents and recommending appropriate medical care and follow-up options when an athletic injury has occurred.
