Position S ummary ...

The Manager, Technical Product Management (TPM) reports to the S r. Director, Product Management and will lead a team of Technical Product Managers. S/he leads this team in cross-organization al collaboration to develop and manage product/platform strategy, planning and execution throughout the product lifecycle, product roadmap discovery and release plans, product /platform design, product development priorities, release management, and product maintenance. This position works closely with Product Engineering teams to e nsure successful product roadmap delivery . Working across the teams , the Manager ensures that the product /platform vision and results align with the organizational mission and that meets internal and external goals for profitability, mission alignment, and customer satisfaction.

The successful candidate is an experienced product management leader with both business savvy and technical chops. In this role, the Manager will collaborate with account /program management, support, professional services, product engineering , and research/psychometric services to provide world-class support for NWEA end products/services . C omfortable c ommunicating directly with customers both virtually and on-site, is an important aspect of this role and some travel will be required to meet with customers and third-party solution providers.

This role re quires solid experience with the agile development process, deep understand in g of how to collaborate effectively with the entire product team and adapt quickly to change in a dynamic environment .

Responsibilities ...

  • Lead the team to proactively meet with stakeholders to assess needs, identify opportunities and build relationships that provide the team with relevant market data and inform product /platform choices
  • Develops and directs a high-perform ing technical product management team that optimizes the offerings to contribute to the overall NWEA product and services portfolio. This includes supervision, team and individual performance development and mentoring to ensure effective execution for individual and team responsibilities
  • Identify and build cross-functional team collaboration on a real-time and strategic basis within NWEA
  • Ensure the team's work is coordinated with other Product Management teams so that the NWEA product portfolio is cohesive, meets customer needs, and so that the teams' work is efficient and effective
  • Evangelize and socialize product strategy, vision and value proposition with internal and external stakeholders
  • Assess technology trends, and current and emerging competitors in order to inform product /platform direction; utilize and gather market and industry research and analysis to inform a long-range product /platform roadmap
  • Attend key industry conferences , capture key takeaways and socialize with the Product Management team
  • Attract, recruit, develop, retain and manage performance of a staff that will support NWEA's current needs and intended future accomplishments
  • Develop and continually improve product discovery and de livery process with measurable quality indicators and metrics. Prepare and discuss quality reports with management
  • Coll aborate with product engineering teams and ensure delivery of product road maps ; track projects/team inter dependencies and coordinate efforts across different stakeholder teams
  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the success of the team and the entire organization

  • Ability to share and communicate ideas both verbally and in writing to business sponsors, managers, and technical resources in clear concise language that is appropriate to the target audience
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities with a service-oriented interpersonal style. Ability to develop and maintain business relationships at all levels with internal and external organizations
  • Ability to lead in a dynamic, fast changing environment is essential
  • Ability to manage other Technical Product Managers and coach them in their work
  • Ability to establish priorities and results within the team and within the cross-functional teams at NWEA while concurrently managing unrelated, multiple and complex technical requirements on a timely basis
  • Ability to make timely decisions and produce results through the effective implementation of products, programs and scaleable processes
  • Demonstrated ability to operate and contribute at both a tactical and strategic level
  • Advanced proficiency in a broad range of agile delivery management and road map tools such as Jira, Target Process and Aha
  • Ability to balance competing demands for project scope, time, cost, risk and quality; combined with ability to manage several projects concurrently with a sense for organizational priority
Education and E xperience ...

  • Bachelor's degree in education, technical or business discipline or equivalent experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Minimum t en years' experience in product management, product development, product marketing or related discipline, with at least three years of direct leadership experience preferred
  • Domain knowledge and demonstrated understanding of the area o f emphasis and the educational marketplace . Experience with complex large-scale testing/assessment solutions a plus
  • Solid knowledge of/experience with the Product Lifecycle Management processes such as product requirements definition, product business plan development, new product introduction, etc.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and launching complex technology products , combined with managing /supervising teams
  • Experience with all aspects of go to market planning and launch
  • Proficient with Agile, Pragmatic or 280 group Product Management frameworks required
  • Demonstrated history of providing thought leadership
