The non-profit KIPP Foundation trains and develops outstanding educators to lead KIPP schools, provides tools, resources, and training for excellent teaching and learning, promotes innovation, and facilitates the exchange of insights and ideas within the KIPP network and with partners including: other charters, districts, colleges and universities, and non-profit organizations across the country.

ROLE OVERVIEW
The Finance team oversees all accounting and finance transactions for the KIPP Foundation and works to ensure the organization's fiscal health. Reporting to the Director of Grants Management, the Manager of Grants Analysis & Administration has two major responsibilities: First, he/she/they will develop and manage grant budgets, including developing forecasts and generating financial reports. Second, s/he/they, in partnership with two other members of the Finance Team, will be responsible for overseeing post-award, grant administration for all philanthropic grants received by the KIPP Foundation.

The Manager, Grants Planning & Analysis is a full-time, exempt position to be based in our San Francisco office, reporting to the Senior Director, Grants Management, and will supervise one staff accountant.

Key Responsibilities
Grant Planning & Analysis (Federal and Philanthropic Grants)
  • Partner with Development Staff and the Financial Planning & Analysis Team (FP&A) to model/forecast grants in order to monitor spending and funding gaps
  • Support creation of grant proposals by assisting with budget creation and reviewing grant budget proposals
  • Partner with grant accountant manager(s) and provide day-to-day oversight of accounting functions related to grants, financial reporting, and recordkeeping of authorized grant spend against approved grants
  • Lead monthly grants performance review meeting with each Program team budget manager to review grant financials (budget to actuals) and identify any material changes
  • Work with the FP&A team to update grant planning assumptions in the financial/grant planning system based on historical and insightful analysis, strategic management decisions and conversations with program budget managers. This may include
    • Changes in grant revenue forecasts
    • Changes in personnel (headcount, promotions, title changes, new hires, etc.)
    • Changes in programming (scope, timing, focus, etc.)
    • Increased or decreased spending, as compared to budget and prior forecast
  • Ongoing maintenance and formal quarterly updates of the KIPP Foundation Coding Guide

Project Management of Non-Federal Grants
  • With the assistance of the Grant Administrator, oversee the grant launch at the beginning of each philanthropic grant, using grant checklist to ensure smooth hand-off of grant documentation, donor restrictions, and reporting requirements from Development and ensure correct data entry of grant details in the Salesforce grants management system
  • With the assistance of the Grants Administrator, oversee the issuance of all subaward grant agreements either to the KIPP Network (KIPP Regions and Schools) or other outside partners
  • Lead cross-team meetings with the Development to discuss philanthropic grant execution and upcoming grant proposals
  • Monitor KIPP Foundation programs and work with program leads to ensure compliance with funder's terms and conditions and deliverables; monitor spending; and request amendments to grant agreement (i.e. no-cost-extensions, etc.) in partnership with the Development Team, if needed
  • In partnership with the grant accountant manager, provide financial data to Development as per grant-reporting calendar

Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this role will be passionate about KIPP's mission and values. In addition, he/she/they will have demonstrated success in the following skills and competencies that are critical to success in this role:
  • At least 5 years experience managing grant private or government grant programs
  • Self-directed and results-oriented, demonstrating initiative, flexibility and follow-through
  • Knowledge of financial management and accounting principles, including reporting requirements and procedures
  • Knowledge of federal grants and OMB Uniform Guidance, a plus
  • Detailed and proficient with word processing, databases, Internet and presentation software
  • University, Nonprofit or philanthropic experience preferred
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
