River Bend Education Center is a self-contained K-8 school. Self-contained Schools serve students who have significant emotional, behavior and mental health needs that adversely affect their academic and social progress. Students receive intensive individual academic and behavior management support. This part-time school social work position will be focusing on restorative practices and the suspension re-admit process.

SUMMARY
To participate in screening, identifying, assessing and referring potentially handicapped students, to provide support services identified in an individualized educational plan, and to provide social work services to students and families.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provide advocacy for students and families during the educational planning process.
Serve as a resource to students and families experiencing crisis.
Serve as a resource to building staff regarding identifying and reporting child abuse and neglect.
Facilitate due process procedures to ensure that parents and guardians have full access to procedural safeguards and involve parents in educational planning.
Screen and identify the problems and needs of students through consultation with students, parents, staff and community agency personal. Collect and evaluate appropriate student records.
Write and present social work assessment summaries and recommendations for educational planning and social work services for students when requested by the Student Support Team and before SEPP referrals.
Participate on the building's Student Support Teams; Comprehensive Team to Assure Resliency in Students (CTARS) and Individual Education Program (IEP).

Education Training and Experience
Master's Degree in Social Work.
Current License as a School Social Worker by the Minnesota Department of Education.
Current License from the Minnesota Board of Social Work as a LGSW, LISW or LICSW.
School social work experience or experience in a social service, correctional, or mental health setting providing services to children and/or adolescents.
Must be able to work collaboratively as a team member.
You must be able to transport students.

Final candidates may be invited to interview with a committee. Final appointment to this position will be contingent upon passing a criminal background check.
