AVID Tutors

GENERAL STATEMENT

The AVID Tutor accepts responsibility for providing tutoring to AVID middle and high school students at the school site. This includes providing academic support to students leading subject-specified study groups and acting as a role model for AVID students. This tutoring will be done during the school day and the tutor will work under the direction of a certified teacher and the building administrator.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Willingness to be trained in AVID methodologies through tutor training.
• Provides academic support to students to ensure success in rigorous coursework.
• Leads subject specific study groups.
• Provides direct instruction under the AVID teacher's supervision.
• Acts as a role model for AVID Students.
• Informs AVID teacher of student progress.
• Advocates for AVID tutor program among college peers to build pool of tutors.

WORK YEAR

Number days per week and work hours varies by school.

SALARY

Varies based upon the experience of the tutor:

• AVID Tutors who are College Students-- $12.50 / hour, no benefits.
• AVID Tutors who are College Graduates-- $20.00 / hour, no benefits.
