Specialist, Curriculum & Virtual Learning

Summary: Plans, facilitates, and evaluates the activities and operations of the virtual learning and curriculum & instruction at the elementary school levels. The Curriculum & Virtual Learning Specialist serves as liaison between schools and Learning and Language Acquisition and Media Services to provide leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of virtual learning programs and schools in order to extend student learning beyond the traditional school classroom. This position also works to enhance teacher, media specialist, and school leader effectiveness. The specialist will participate in the implementation of policies and procedures impacting quality delivery of support services.

Essential Duties: (These duties represent a sample and may vary by position.)
  • Performs project management activities by defining project parameters, analyzing risk and return, establishing priorities and coordinating communications.
  • Consults with school leaders to define needs and opportunities.
  • Assists in attainment of learning goals and objectives, development of policies, coordination of operations among departments, and establishment of responsibilities and procedures for attaining objectives.
  • Assists in the planning and development of services for teachers and school and district leaders.
  • Assists with the preparations of projects, long-range plans, and budgets based on organizational goals and objectives.
  • Assists in formulating procedures and policies as well as in developing long-range goals and objectives.
  • Consults with Executive Director & Director and other district personnel to assess success and make changes in goals or objectives as needed.
  • Assists in providing staff development in areas of extending learning using digital, print and other resources.
  • Assists Executive Director & Director in reviewing plans to accomplish learning goals within funding limitations, staffing requirements, and available resources.
  • Conducts action research to obtain current information.
  • Reviews survey information and analyzes student learning data to recommend solutions.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.


Education and Experience:

Minimum
  • Master's Degree in Education
  • Three years of successful teaching experience in a relevant area, supplemented by project management experience
  • NC teaching certificate in a relevant area required
  • Possession of or ability to obtain valid NC Curriculum Specialist/School Administration license

Desired
  • Advanced degree in education or related field from an accredited university
  • Experience in implementing successful digital learning solutions
  • Direct experience working with students in a digital lab or similar environment
  • Taught in an online environment

Licensing / Certification Requirements: A valid NC M-level teacher's certificate.

Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary. It requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing. The work requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations. The work at times requires bending, squatting, reaching, with the ability to lift, carry, push or pull light weights. The work requires activities frequently involving driving automotive equipment.
