Building-Based Substitute Teachers are responsible for educating the students enrolled at Niagara Charter School in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assume all duties of the regular classroom teacher
- Follow the lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher
- Maintain normal classroom routines
- Provide direct and indirect instruction
- Prepare students adequately for all required assessments
- Provide an inviting, exciting, innovative learning environment
- Engage in effective and appropriate classroom management
- Serve as an advisor to students
- Meet IEP regulations
- Develop lesson plans that ensure the attainment of state standards and the additional specific grade-by-grade learning standards set forth in the charter, as applicable for long-term assignments
- Coordinate lesson plans with other teachers to maximize possibilities for teaching similar topics in the same general time frame, thus reinforcing student knowledge on an interdisciplinary basis, as applicable for long-term assignments
- Create long and short-term planning addressing individual needs of students, as applicable for long-term assignments
- Evaluate students' progress, as applicable for long-term assignments
- Perform other duties, as deemed appropriate by the AAO
- Communicate and work effectively with others
- Work effectively as a team member
- Adapt to teaching various subjects and grade levels
- Adapt to individuals' specific needs
- Adapt to differences and changes in characteristics of students, programs, leadership, staff, and community
- Ability to engage the interest of young children
- Ability to work with diverse student population, including those with special needs
