Our Teachers are responsible for ensuring that students achieve mastery of learning objectives. They provide guidance, instruction and support, manage the learning process and focus on students' individual needs. Teachers monitor student progress through interactive lessons and daily assessments and they actively work with students and parents to advance each child's learning.

AS A Secondary Special Education Teacher, YOU WILL ENJOY...
  • Work with individual students, including development of lessons, one on one or in small group settings, over the phone, and/or via web conference to improve academic performance.
  • Conduct regular conferences with parents/Learning Coaches and students to assess each student's progress, learning style, and other academic, social, or developmental issues. Document conference details in database.
  • Analyze data to identify student academic strengths and weaknesses. Proactively track student academic progress and school attendance and notify administration of red flags.
  • Participate on IEP and pre-referral teams for students with special needs.
  • Prepare students for State standardized tests; proctor site-based standardized testing (this might mean traveling away from your home base depending on testing needs).
  • Communicate State Test data to students and parents/Learning Coaches, work together to set individual academic goals, and follow through to ensure students reach their goals.
  • Support students and parents/Learning Coaches with student placement, curriculum, instructional issues, school set-up and logistics questions including basic computer set-up, navigation, and troubleshooting.
  • Collect, review, and provide feedback on work samples.
  • Develop positive relationships with parents/Learning Coaches, students and ORVA staff members.
  • Possess a wide ranging knowledge base of the K12 curriculum and State Content Standards with Limits for assigned grade levels.
  • Respond in a timely manner, no longer than 24 business hours, to student, parent/Learning Coach and ORVA staff inquiries via phone and/or e-mail during the regular work week.
  • Support ORVA administrators with school information sessions.
  • Organize social and educational activities for students and families one time per month including sponsorship of one virtual club.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings via web or phone conference or face to face (travel may be required).
  • Provide subject-specific support to parents and students including study sessions, ClassConnect and Office Hours.

Are you driven by excellence to deliver instruction, support and guidance, manage the learning process, and focus on students' individual needs? If selected, you will participate in a comprehensive new teacher training program for three weeks before the start of school. It is an opportunity to meet colleagues and learn the responsibilities required for delivering curriculum in an online environment. During this training you will also learn how to monitor student progress through K12's learning management system, and to be a partner actively working with students and parents to advance each child's learning.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and professional experience
  • Experience coordinating academically oriented clubs and extracurricular activities

    Certificates and Licenses:
  • Valid Oregon Teaching License, with emphasis on applicable subject matter assigned.
  • Meets Highly Qualified status under NCLB for courses scheduled to be taught.

Language Ability:
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.

    Math Ability:
  • Work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

    Reasoning Ability:
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to maintain command of theoretical knowledge of human behavior and learning including motivation, reinforcement, evaluation and feedback techniques

    Computer Skills:
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; and experience using a student information system and/or other type of database software. Experience moderating web meetings (Elluminate, Webinar, Webex) for small and large groups.
