NOTICE OF POSITION

POSITION : The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Kriner Cash, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:

School Counselor (Hourly Rate)

District-Wide Evening Community High School at Bennett Campus

QUALIFICATIONS :

Candidates must have earned a Bachelor's and/or Master's degree and have a New York State certificate as School Counselor and be currently employed by BPS. The candidate must have a demonstrated record of effective academic guidance support with academically challenged students and be able to effectively use the student information system (Infinite Campus) to create schedules, verify attendance, assist in assigning grades and verifying transcripts. The counselor will also communicate with high school counselors via email during the program hours. Candidates must possess a recognized interest in developing authentic and meaningful professional relationships with youth who struggle academically.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Evening School Counselor will work under the supervision of the Evening School Principal/Assistant Principal. The Principal, as the responsible head and educational leader of the school will assure compliance with state education law and Commissioner's Regulations.

  • Assists students in registration for Regent courses and electives required for graduation
  • Communicates with home school counselor regarding student course requirements
  • Assists students and parents in understanding exam results
  • Records and provide information for students, parents and teachers on graduation requirements
  • Ensures that all grades are properly record in Infinite Campus
  • Communicates with administration and teachers regarding the academic needs of students
  • Reviews the status of students as it pertains to academic progress
  • Counsels students regarding attendance and tardiness.
  • Assists with Crisis Intervention Services
  • Meets with students regarding socio-economic concerns impeding academic progress
  • Ensures that transcripts, IEP's and other necessary documents are obtained
  • Works with teachers to ensure appropriate learning techniques are applied to meet individual student needs
  • Acts as a liaison between teachers and administrators, as needed
  • Individual counseling, if needed
  • Develops the Personal Learning Plan in conjunction with Leadership Team
  • Performs other duties as assigned


The assignment includes:

  • Monday, Wednesday, Thursday
  • 3.5 hours per day for 3 days a week for no more than 10.5 hours
  • Hours: 5PM - 8:30PM
  • November 13, 2019 - June 15, 2020


APPOINTMENT : Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following the assessment of training, experience, credentials, evaluation of service, program needs and interview.
