Adult Education Associate Educator
Location: South Campus (2015 E Lake Street)
Schedule: 8:00am-4:30pm M-Th; 8:00am-2:00pm Friday

Function:Facilitate student registration in Adult Education program. Responsible for providing excellent customer service, learner registration, assessment, scheduling, data entry, and maintenance of accurate program and student records.

Reports to: Assigned Adult Education Site Supervisor; Works closely with all site staff including coordinators, managers and teachers.

Essential Responsibilities: Create and sustain a positive learning and teaching environment by having a daily and highly visible presence with students in their assigned buildings.

Student Support
  • Provide outstanding customer service to the public and answer program questions via phone, email and in person.
  • Be aware of multiple cultural norms and use that information as a way to demonstrate respect and to maintain a welcoming environment for program participants and visitors.
  • Schedule registration, testing appointments and follow-up for new and returning learners.
  • Conduct interviews with new or returning learners to collect demographic information, develop Personal Education Plans, provide initial testing using the CASAS or TABE, clearly communicate program Policy and Procedures Contracts and enter information into the SID data system.
  • Schedule students for orientation class (as available) and appropriate classes based on assessments and instructor recommendations.
  • Follow-up with learners who are not regularly attending class and record this information in the data system. Exit learners per program protocols.
  • Complete learner school attendance verification forms required by MFIP and other social services.
  • Document learner concerns and assist in solving problems. Share documentation with Site Supervisor.
  • Up to two hours weekly will be invested in visiting classrooms to increase employee's understanding of AE students' experience. Half of this time can be used to "volunteer" in a specific class as teacher needs.

Staff and Administrative Support
  • Follow approved testing protocols to assure test scores are valid and assessment practices are in compliance.
  • Serve as an interpreter for non-English or limited English speaking students and assist in the translation of materials.
  • Meet with learners who are not in compliance with program policies to discuss expectations.
  • Possess strong technology skills to deliver school programming and services to students.
  • Be proficient in creating, organizing and maintaining classroom and office records.
  • Monitor attendance data for accuracy.
  • Run reports to determine classroom capacity. Once approved by site supervisor, schedule students as space is available to assure the program remains at capacity.
  • Participate in meetings with registration staff colleagues and site supervisors to plan work, address challenges and improve processes.
  • Work with site supervisors to anticipate issues, solve problems, and work toward program and participant goals.
  • Provide correlations and competency charts for teachers to demonstrate the skills of learners in their classes.
  • Participate as a GED Alternate Testing Examiner as needed.

General Daily Duties
  • Promote and model successful school culture and atmosphere.
  • Assist with Welcome Desk, building security, safety and emergency issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

CLASS DESIGNATIONS

Classroom Support : Assist licensed staff in classrooms to maintain a positive learning environment and reinforce classroom learning.

EDUCATION
One of the following:
  • Associate's degree or higher in Education or closely related area
  • Completed 90 quarter or 60 semester college credits from an accredited institution
  • A passing score of 460 (or higher) on the ParaPro Assessment AND either a high school diploma or a GED certificate (For more information on the ParaPro Assessment, contact Educational Testing Service at 1-800-772-9476 or www.ets.org/parapro )
AND
Two (2) years of professional experience working with older children or adult learners.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
First Aid, CPR, AED and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training may be required.

Final candidates may be invited to interview with a committee. Final appointment to this position will be contingent upon passing a criminal background check.
