BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or general education (GED); four years of institutional food service experience with previous supervisory experience; or any combination of experience and training that would provide the following knowledge, abilities, and skills: Thorough knowledge of cafeteria operations, equipment, and practices. Considerable knowledge of health code and USDA requirements. Ability to organize, delegate, train, supervise, and evaluate employees. Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with cafeteria personnel, students, and school community. Ability to extend a recipe and accurately determine food requirements. Ability to prepare and maintain necessary records. Ability to perform tasks of all subordinates. Ability to enforce and maintain sanitation and safety regulations and requirements. Ability to prepare new and different food from a recipe.

BASIC FUNCTION/NATURE OF WORK:

This is supervisory work in the food service management of a school cafeteria or cafeterias with a total of two full-service lines. Work involves directing al cafeteria operations, including food preparation and serving, and cleaning activities; training; record keeping; and purchasing food and supplies. This position requires directing and coordinating the work effort of cafeteria workers through subordinate lead workers. Work is performed with latitude for independent judgment and action. The manager receives direction and guidance from the Supervisor of Food Services and the building principal. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

Grade 7; 7.5 hours per day

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES/ILLUSTRATIVE EX OF WORK:

Include the following. Plans, organizes, and supervises the serving of breakfast, lunch, and snack menus; determines the types and quantities of food and supplies needed; purchases and supervises the receipt and storage of all food and supplies. Assists in hiring cafeteria personnel and trains and evaluates each employee in accepted food service practices and health codes. Supervises the preparation and cooking of food to ensure proper temperature, palatability, and appearance of food. Maintains daily and monthly food forecast and cost records; computes food costs and prepares monthly operation reports. Participates in any and all cafeteria activities as necessitated by workload. Performs frequent inspection of mechanical equipment and reports breakdowns; supervises the upkeep and sanitation of all cafeteria facilities and equipment. Performs other duties as assigned.

SALARY:
Hiring Range: $29,219 - $41,175/year ($20.29 - $28.59/hour)
