BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate degree required; four year degree in engineering architectural or management preferred; eight years of experience in engineering design, maintenance operations, construction project management, trade inspections, computer data bases, computer based or energy management and control systems, or industrial water treatment; or any combination of education and experience which provides the following knowledge, abilities or skills:

  • Thorough knowledge of basic principles and practices of engineering, architecture, maintenance, construction operations and processes.
  • Thorough knowledge of state, local, and federal building codes applicable to general building maintenance and construction.
  • Ability to use computer for communications, material ordering, spread sheets, HVAC energy management and control systems.
  • Ability to plan and implement a system-wide energy management program.
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations and basic statistics.
  • Ability to read, write and work from blueprints, and schematics.
  • Ability to use and apply the basic quality control tools.
  • Ability to maintain records and generate reports.
  • Ability to prepare specifications and other related engineering documents and insure contractor's compliance.
  • Ability to perform field inspections and data collection work.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships and communicate effectively with school officials, principals, contractors, parents, and local, state, and federal government officials on a variety of subjects.
  • Ability to develop designs and perform drafting on a wide variety of general maintenance, HVAC and water treatment projects.
  • Ability to read, write, and work from blueprints, schematics and specifications.
  • Must possess a valid Virginia driver's license.
  • Those individuals whose primary responsibility is inspection of tradesmen's work are required to possess certification in more than one specialty.


Must be knowledgeable in Andover and Schneider.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk or electrical shock, and vibration.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

BASIC FUNCTION/NATURE OF WORK:

This is highly technical, maintenance, engineering, inspection, quality control, and project manager type work. The employee provides engineering on architectural design, solutions to maintenance problems, project management and inspection service; may prepare architectural/structural product specifications; may evaluate new architectural/structural methods and materials; may provide industrial water treatment services; and may provide technical HVAC maintenance operations, and automated controls work. The work is performed under the general supervision of various Coordinators and/or the Supervisor or Director of Facilities Management Services.

DIMENSIONS:

Grade 11; 7.5 hours per day

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES/ILLUSTRATIVE EX OF WORK:


  • Works collaboratively with all stakeholders in Providing a World-Class Education.

  • Designs and drafts, or lays out for others to draft, a variety of architectural and engineering projects including new construction, modifications, and renovations relating to facilities within the school system.

  • Visits project sites to examine existing conditions, gathers data, and takes measurements.

  • Reviews codes and standards for applicability to project.

  • Researches product data for feasibility; consults with manufacturers and shop foremen.

  • Develops facilities training activities and instructs employees.

  • Teaches specific maintenance activities to employees.

  • Modifies project manual contract documents, as required; prepares work and product specifications.

  • Inspects projects for completion and conformance with drawings and applicable building codes, uses various test equipment and data to insure compliance.

  • Coordinates construction problems with contractors during construction and warranty periods.

  • Obtains permits for in-house construction projects or insures contractor's compliance with permit process.

  • Maintains records of warranty repair concerns.

  • Informs the new construction department of warranty repair concerns for renovations or new work projects.

  • Responds to emergency duty assignments when required by Supervisor.

  • Attends classes to continuously improve knowledge.

  • Inspects trades work for compliance with Uniformed Statewide Building Code and works with staff to obtain compliance.

  • Develops code modifications for submittal to county building official.

  • Establishes standards and specifications associated with the industrial water treatment program.

  • Manages and implements new work order systems or substantial updates to facilities data bases.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.



SALARY:
Hiring Range: $54,468 - $76,766/year ($29.05 - $40.94/hour)

DAYS: 250

FULL TIME/PART TIME: Full Time
