Job Summary
The Network Analyst II performs technical and specialized work in the design and maintenance of the data network infrastructure. The analyst works to optimize LAN/WAN/WLAN performance and diagnoses and corrects network problems. The position has a retirement association with the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS).

Job Requirements
The following are required:
  1. A high school diploma or equivalent.Cisco CCNA or equivalent industry standard certification.Four years of experience in the design and maintenance of enterprise networks.Work experience troubleshooting and maintaining Cisco routers, switches, firewall, and wireless technology.Work experience with IPv4 networking and routing protocol such as OSPF and BGP.Work experience with SNMP based network management systems.Work experience in layer 2 switching.A valid Alaska driver's license.

The following are preferred:
  1. Cisco CCNP or Juniper certifications.Ability to read and understand complex network topology documentation.Ability to provide support for multi-vendor platform network.Work experience with physical connectivity such as ethernet and fiber.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Optimizes wide area and local area networks and provides recommendations for efficiency.Diagnoses and corrects problems on the LANs, WANs, and WLANs to include VOIP technology.Performs protocol analysis utilizing network analyzers. Reviews and provides data specifications for all new construction and renovations.Provides training for operators and end users as required. Works with vendors, staff, and end users in the installation and troubleshooting process.Develops and maintains network monitoring systems. Develops and maintains LAN, WAN, WLAN, and VoIP connectivity standards and procedures. Keeps network documentation current including network drawings and electronic configurations.Creates and maintains clear technical documentation.Assists junior staff with installation, repair, and upgrade of network equipment.Provides own transportation to various work assignments.Works independently and when required works effectively as part of a team. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with others.

Physical/Mental Demands
The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking, and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to communicate by oral and written means in an appropriate business manner and have cognitive skills to understand instructions, readily recall facts and details, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.

Work is performed in a professional environment with a wide variety of individuals having differing functions, personalities and abilities, including working with diverse groups of people in a variety of different settings.

While performing the duties of this job the employee may be regularly exposed to a video display. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
