POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides instruction to students in a home, hospital, or other therapeutic setting using materials provided by the classroom teacher.

Brief Description:

This is a PGCEA, 10-month TEMPORARY position with an hourly salary. Individuals interested in a second assignment may also apply.

Hourly Salary Rate: 0 - 5 years experience - $31.67

6 - 10 years experience - $32.95

11 - 15 years experience - $35.47

16 - 20 years experience - $37.99

Detailed Description:

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Contacts professional school counselor/principal's designee to obtain work to be covered during the student's absence from school/class(es);
  • Contacts parents/caretakers of student to set up appropriate teaching schedule;
  • Picks up teaching books/materials/assignments from school and returns student work to school in reasonable intervals for grading by the classroom teacher;
  • Maintains contact with school/classroom teacher;
  • Maintains contact with Case Manager regarding all aspects of assignments;
  • Teaches subject matter per teacher direction;
  • Implements IEP goals and objectives, transition plans and strategies as developed by a school team;
  • Submits service agreements, student progress reports, and payroll forms according to timelines and written instructions provided by the Office of Home and Hospital Teaching (OHHT); and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have access to reliable transportation and use of a computer with internet access;
  • Fingerprints and background check per current county/state guidelines;
  • Considerable knowledge of methods and strategies in one or more of the following areas: elementary school, middle school, high school, special education, early childhood, multiple handicapped and severely profoundly handicapped;
  • Knowledge of curriculum, teaching techniques, and materials of instruction;
  • Flexibility, creativity, ability to adapt to a variety of teaching settings and learning styles;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing and to maintain effective working relationships; and
  • Computer proficiency including working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Google Applications, Google Classroom and/or online platforms for instruction.

  • EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree per COMAR 13A.03.05.01-05.

    CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    None required.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    No direct supervisory responsibilities.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, the ability to adjust focus, and depth perception. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

    Preference is given to candidates who are eligible for or who currently hold a teacher's credential for the State of Maryland; Bilingual candidates and retired PGCPS educators are encouraged to apply. Bilingual applicants with English and Spanish proficiency are strongly encouraged to apply.

    Additional Details:

    Direct Deposit is expected as a condition of new hire employment.
