QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or GED.

Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.

Current CPR/First Aid Certification.

A high tolerance for frustration and a high degree of patience.

Ability to effectively use written and verbal skills to communicate with teachers, students, supervisors and parents.

Ability to take initiative to creatively solve problems, and to participate and communicate as a member of a team.

Demonstrate a high degree of customer service skills and professionalism.

Organizational, clerical and computer literacy abilities required.

Regular attendance is required.

Other qualifications to the above that the Board may find acceptable and appropriate.

* Supervisor may choose to waive some qualifications.

REPORTS TO: Principal/Assistant Principal or designee

SUPERVISES: Not applicable

JOB GOAL: To assist the School Nurse in the smooth and efficient operation of the school health services to provide maximum positive impact on the educational environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Maintain confidentiality of records/communications.

Work under the direction of certified school nurse.

Administer first aid according to the standing orders of the school District physician.

Assist school nurse in conducting height, weight, vision and hearing screenings, and refer students needing further evaluation to school nurse.

Assist school nurse in maintaining student health and child accounting records.

Assist physician and/or school nurse in performing physical assessments on students.

Perform necessary clerical work pertaining to health services such as tracking supplies.

Maintain effective health room schedule and clean environment.

Assist school nurse in conducting initial assessment of student on complaint of illness at school in accordance with District policy.

Administer medications and/or treatments as ordered by student's Primary Care Provider and requested by parent.

Change/assist with changing student's diapers and clothes that are soiled.

Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

Assist with athletic physicals.

Assist with immunization programs.

Working knowledge of community health services in order to communicate with others effectively.

Attend monthly nursing department meetings.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: School year

EVALUATION: For new employees, evaluations will be performed according to the current collective bargaining agreement. For transferring employees, evaluations will be done at 30 days. All regular employees will be evaluated at least yearly.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:

Physical Demands:

Ability to assist students in wheelchairs for transfers, changes, etc.

Lifting dependent on weight of particular student, up to 50 lbs.

Ability to maneuver student/adult into a safe position for administering First Aid or CPR.

Sensory Abilities: Normal/Corrected vision

Ability to work as a member of a team.

Must be courteous and able to deal effectively with people.

Must be cooperative, congenial, and service oriented.

Ability to work with limited supervision.

Ability to be flexible.

High degree of patience and tolerance.

Mental Demands: Ability to work independently in maintaining effective work pattern and react appropriately in emergency situations.

Environment: Exposure to blood born pathogens. Exposure to communicable diseases.
