The Educational Specialist II - Health and Physical Education will provide system-wide support and leadership in PreK-12 health and physical education, including but not limited to, curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional development. The health and physical education specialist will be responsible for the development and continuous improvement of curriculum that is aligned to state and national standards. The Educational Specialist will work with partners, vendors, and other content experts to identify quality practices and resources to promote standards based physical education and skills based health education. This position will also support the development and facilitation of health and physical education-based professional learning opportunities for district and school-based staff.

Essential Functions
  • Supports the planning and development of curriculum and assessments for health and physical education.
  • Develops and delivers ongoing professional learning around best practices in health and physical education.
  • Uses data collected to strategically support the needs of teachers and schools throughout the district.
  • Develops and provides appropriate guidance for schools and school leaders on best practices in health and physical education.
  • Works collaboratively with a highly-motivated team from multiple offices and community partners to advance teaching and learning in the district.
  • Manages budget and monitors expenditures for grants and general funds.
  • Stays up to date on current research and best practices in health and physical education content, pedagogy, and adult learning.
  • Seeks competitive funding opportunities to advance health and physical education in the district.
  • Keeps the Director of Science and the Executive Director of Teaching and Learning abreast of all matters related to health and physical education.
  • Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies and professional standards.

Minimum Salary 75548.00
Desired Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Education or related field from an accredited college or institution. Degree must be from an accredited college or institution.
  • A valid Maryland State Department of Education Advanced Professional Certificate with endorsement in an appropriate subject area required.
  • Three years teaching experience in health and/or physical education.
  • Experience developing and delivering professional learning to teachers.
  • Urban school experience preferred; district level experience preferred.
  • Experience managing large scale projects.
  • Knowledge of current research in health & physical education.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A commitment to educational equity.
  • Proficient in the use of multiple computer applications including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, rules and policies affecting City Schools' educators.
