Job Summary
The Automotive Service Technician, Bus performs maintenance and repair of Anchorage School District school buses. The position has a retirement association with the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS),

Job Requirements
The following are required:
  1. A high school diploma or equivalent.Two years of diversified diesel/gasoline engine service and repair work on motorized equipment. Job history must reflect minimum requirements and evidence the ability to perform tasks assigned.Must obtain a valid Alaska commercial driver's license for group-A type vehicles within 6 months of hire. Vehicle group as established by Federal Highway Administration section 383.91.Ability to accommodate shifts subject to change.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

The following are preferred:
  1. Knowledge in the safe use of standard tools, methods, and equipment used in the tuning, repair, and servicing of automotive equipment such as school buses, trucks, and other support equipment.Knowledge of and ability to diagnose, remove, and replace, if necessary, any and all parts and components including but not limited to engines, transmissions, and differentials.Performs routine inspections and repairs on required ASD-owned vehicles.Ability to operate a school bus for diagnostic problems and vehicle transfers.Ability to write reports.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Performs routine and preventative maintenance including oil and filter changes, lubrication, changing or servicing air cleaners, servicing battery, repairing or replacing tires and brakes, checking all fluid levels in the radiator, transmission differential, power steering, windshield washing reservoir, brakes, 121 air systems, electrical systems, etc.Washes and cleans equipment including steam cleaning of engines.Performs tune-ups as needed on ASD school buses and support vehicles.Performs routine inspections to include but not limited to, steering wheel and front end looseness, brake pedal, drive-line looseness, safety equipment, lights, muffler, tail pipe, broken springs, worn fan belts, chaffed wiring, defective wipers, oil, water, or gas leaks and cleanliness of vehicles inside and outside.Reports any defects in equipment to supervisors.Remove, replace, or repair all parts and components including engines, transmissions, and differentials, as needed.Performs vehicle retrieval and field service calls as needed.Assists with maintenance of yard and shop.Performs light cutting and welding required to maintain and repair motorized equipment.Maintains records as required.Knowledge of school bus systems.

While performing the duties of this job the employee may be regularly exposed to a video display. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
