Description

The Root to Rise Coordinator position is 15 hours a week. You will be scheduled every B day from 11-4 and on two B day weeks you will select one more 5 hour day for planning, preparation and communication.

Job Description Overview:

The Root to Rise (R2R) Program Coordinator will uphold these commitments through the work with our R2R program participants. The program is a strength-based, targeted strategy that honors the promise within all young people through connection high school students of color with a teacher who believes in their capable leadership and elevates their strengths to support engagement and learning in the teacher's classroom and to work more intensely with younger students as a mentor and tutor.

• Provide training to selected high school mentors in the Root to Rise (R2R) Program related to the core skill topics of basic employability skills, ethics and boundaries, tutoring strategies, and introduction to institutional power and systemic racism.
• Lead small group circles with R2R Program participants as a professional learning community.
• Prepare, provide and assess written reflections of prompts given to R2R Program participants monthly.
• Participate and provide mentoring during monthly check-ins with mentor teachers and students.
• Advocate for social and economic justice in order to reduce barriers and promote learning.
• Engage students in using a variety of evidence-based strategies and techniques that emphasize student strengths and result in collaborative approaches to problem solving that build the skills of students to make healthy decisions.
• Collaborate and consult with colleagues to improve student learning and outcomes.
• Demonstrate the ability to communicate information effectively with a variety of audiences.
• Use technology and maintain records in order to protect confidentiality and provide appropriate services to students.
