QUALIFICATIONS:

High School diploma or GED.

One year of post-secondary training and two years of experience as a secretary; or four years of experience as a secretary.

Proficiency (50 wpm) in keyboarding.

Knowledge of technology, such as Microsoft Office, and use of office equipment. Must be willing to engage in ongoing learning in the field of office technology.

Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Demonstrate a high degree of customer service skills and professionalism.

Proficiency in math skills.

Ability to effectively maintain a customer-focused office.

Ability to take initiative to creatively solve problems, and to participate and communicate as a member of a team.

Regular attendance is required.

Other qualifications to the above that the Board may find acceptable and appropriate.

* Supervisor may choose to waive some qualifications.

REPORTS TO: Principal/Assistant Principal/Department Supervisor

JOB GOAL: Assist in the efficient operation of the office.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Organize and promote a welcoming customer-focused office.

Provide secretarial support for the Principal/Assistant Principal/Department Supervisor.

Obtain, organize, and enter pertinent data in an accurate and timely fashion such as maintenance of child accounting records.

Perform duties according to district/building/departmental procedures.

Maintain records filing, and scanning systems.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

Support all clerical functions for the supervisor/department.

Assist in providing building/department information and procedures.

Support supervisor in communication with students, parents, staff and community.

Support departmental policies, procedure manuals and work instructions.

Maintain and order an appropriate inventory of school/office supplies.

Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full Year

EVALUATION: For new employees, evaluations will be performed according to the collective bargaining agreement. For transferring employees, evaluations will be done at 30 days. All regular employees will be evaluated at least yearly.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:

Physical Demands:

Sitting at a desk for extended periods.

Standing for limited periods of time.

Occasional bending, stooping.

Light lifting - up to 15 lbs. Occasional need to lift up to 25 lbs.

Manual dexterity to prepare mailings and use office equipment.

Repetitive movement of fingers and hands for keyboarding.

Sensory Abilities:

Visual acuity to read correspondence and computer screen.

Auditory acuity to be able to use telephone and greet visitors.

Ability to speak clearly and distinctly.

Temperament:

Ability to work as a member of a team.

Must be courteous and able to deal effectively with people.

Must be cooperative, congenial and service-oriented.

Ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions.

Ability to work with little supervision.

Mental Demands:

High degree of patience and tolerance.

Ability to interpret detailed written and verbal communications.

Ability to perform basic math skills.
