Essential Functions and Objectives:

- The Secondary Special Education paraprofessional supports the educational, behavioral, social-emotional, physical and daily living needs of middle and high school level students with disabilities in integrated, resource, self-contained and community settings. Assists in conducting testing and assessment, multi-media activities, record-keeping, computer operation, discipline, and other activities. May assist with lifting and transporting of students, as well as daily living activities such as toileting, diapering, feeding, and personal hygiene as trained and directed.

Knowledge, Experience, & Other Qualifications:

- Some positions may require the transportation of students, in which case a valid Colorado driver\u2019s license, auto insurance, and a good driving record are required.\n
- Serves students from all eligibility categories. May need to teach literacy, math, language skills, behavioral skills, daily living skills, and/or adaptive skills, and may also provide physical care needs. Provides instruction at the large group, small group, and individual level. Collaborates with general education staff for successful inclusion of students.
- Teaches diverse 6th grade students grade level standards based curriculum in Reading, Writing, Math, Science, Social Studies and Personal Development.

Education Requirements:

Copy of official/unofficial transcript(s) verifying at least 48 semester hours, Associate\u2019s, or Bachelor\u2019s degree from an accredited college or university (All foreign transcripts must be evaluated by a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services. You do not need a course-by-course, just a basic evaluation. Visit www.naces.org for approved service members).

OR

Copy of high school diploma or GED and proof of passing the TABE D Adult Education Test for Reading and Math.

OR

Copy of high school diploma or GED and proof of passing the WorkKeys exam in reading for information and applied mathematics. Score of 4 or higher in both is required.

Required Scores are:

- Paraprofessionals working in ECE - 5th grade positions: Reading score of 7.3 or higher and Math score of 6.1 or higher.

- Paraprofessionals working 6th-8th grade positions: Reading and Math Score of 9.0 or higher

- Paraprofessionals working in 9th - 12th grade positions: Reading and Math Score of 12.7 or higher
