Various openings at various sites @ .5 FTE - There is also a POOL posting for this position at 1.0 FTE. This position holds role of teacher and staff resource and will focus on supporting instruction, academic success and overall inclusion of Newcomer students. Work will include but is not limited to:Provide direct instructional support of newcomers in both push-in and pull-out contexts for a suggested 50% or more of ENTL's work time:
Examine newcomer assessment data (e.g. initial ELPAC) in order to create newcomer pull-out groups
Utilize district-recommended curricula with appropriate modifications
Engage in co-planning and co-teaching with mainstream teachers to support newcomers in mainstream classrooms
Conduct diagnostic and formative assessments of students throughout the school year to monitor growth and adjust instruction
Provide professional development for teachers and other staff around addressing the needs of newcomer students
Consult with teachers/staff to collaboratively develop best approaches for supporting newcomer students within mainstream classrooms
Participate in classroom walkthroughs and newcomer shadowing in order to monitor uptake of scaffolding and other newcomer support strategies
Survey staff and analyze data to determine progress toward building collective efficacy around newcomer instruction
Advocate for equitable newcomer access to school- and community-based services and resources, including student leadership, restorative justice, extracurricular activities, after school programming, and summer opportunities
Promote OUSD's Sanctuary District messaging and policies
Participate in district-organized PL to develop knowledge and skills connected to newcomer learning needs
Participate in district-organized learning communities with others from school site in order to develop plans for
Systematic school intake and orientation
Assessment and progress monitoring
Family involvement
Seek out and leverage opportunities to get student voice and engagement in the ongoing development of supports.
Foster newcomer family involvement in school and amplify their voices in school decision making
