CHORAL DIRECTOR - LONG-TERM SUBSTITUTE

Essex High School, located in Essex Junction, Vermont, is seeking a long-term substitute licensed music educator to serve as a long-term substitute Choral Director beginning mid April, 2020 through mid-June and Mid-August through mid-October. This position may be combined with Instrumental Director long-term substitute positions for the right candidate.

The Choral Director position includes teaching 3 choirs during the school day, Piano I, and AP Music Theory. This position includes after school ensembles that meet on Mondays and Wednesdays until 3:45 pm, as well as some evening concerts and choral festivals.

Successful applicants will have a thorough understanding of best practices in music education, developmentally appropriate repertoire, vocal techniques, and sufficient piano skills to facilitate rehearsals. Additional qualifications being sought are outlined below:
- Hold or be eligible to hold a valid VT Educator license with a Music endorsement (3-12) form any state. Individuals who hold a corresponding teaching license outside the state of VT shall be considered equally..
- Demonstrates knowledge and expertise in the content area(s) of instruction and content-area pedagogy.
- Knowledge and/or experience using "backwards design" for lesson development, differentiated instruction to support all students, and formative assessment to provide student feedback and to adjust lesson delivery
- Experience in co-teaching with other performance arts educators is also desirable
- Dedication to providing a safe and respectful learning environment for students
- Excellent teaching, organizational, planning, written and oral communication, and collaboration skills
- Commitment to the success of ALL students, and ability to understand and teach to the various learning styles of students
- The ability to effectively engage students
- Commitment to continuous improvement in the areas of knowledge and professional practice
- Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the student population being served and how demographic variables impact student achievement, and effectively uses this knowledge to effectively design and delivery instruction.
- Effective integrates 21st century skills into the learning environment.
