The primary functions of the teacher center director are to develop a comprehensive program of in-service courses for teachers, prepare and monitor the budget, and to prepare the state education department (SED) grant.
  • implement programs and policies for the center
  • oversee consultant selection with the policy board approval
  • prepare and monitor Center's budget
  • prepare the state education department grant
  • adhere to the state guidelines governing teacher centers
  • report periodically to all responsible agencies
  • provide positive public relations with schools and communities
  • provide a periodic update of center activities
  • develop a line of communication with the local agency
  • attend all scheduled policy board meetings
  • prepare the agenda for Center Board meetings
Program development
  • Experience with or extensive knowledge of: needs assessment, program design, program implementation and evaluation
  • Able to recruit and assist presenters in developing Center courses
Communication skills
  • Proficient in listening to and understanding the needs of teachers as they relate to the activities of the Teachers' Center
  • Proficient in making presentations to adults and colleagues; and using effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Able to meet ongoing advocacy needs of the Teachers' Center through written and oral presentations to legislative leaders, agencies, and organizations
Technology skills
  • Able to use Microsoft Office software
  • Familiar and skilled with office equipment
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve with Center equipment
Organizational Skills
  • Able to prepare and monitor a budget
  • Able to maintain accurate records and meet state education department timelines
  • Monitor and make budgetary recommendations to the policy board
Facilitator/Presenter skills
  • The ability to present to adult learners
