HCZ Promise Academy II After-School is seeking part-time Youth Advocates that are passionate in various STEAM fields to support with creating curricula for our enrichment programs (Art, Photography, Music, Theatre, etc.). The Youth Advocate will develop strategies to expose students to the arts and support career preparation in the performing arts field. Through a variety of project-based learning enrichment classes, students will also have the opportunity enhance their writing/literacy, computer technology, and leadership skills in the process. The mission of the program is to educate and empower youth to become agents of positive personal and social change through the arts, academics and activism.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work directly with Middle School/High Schools scholars in all their high-quality enrichment activities (i.e. Arts, Music, Theatre and etc.)
  • Motivating and maintaining the interest of the student while setting an example in all areas, including time and attendance
  • Work with activity specialist to create and develop quality curricula for enrichment activities based of the Advocate's specialty and student needs (Art, Film, Music, Theatre, and etc.)
  • Develop lesson plans that are level appropriate for each group
  • Monitor and evaluate enrichment activities to ensure programs reach target goals and implement modifications as needed by the program
  • Encourage positive character development in all youth
  • Assist with program set-up and clean up
  • Maintain and monitor materials equipment for afterschool enrichment program
  • Support Harlem Children's Zone organization-wide programs and events
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge Requirements
  • A commitment to the mission and programs of HCZ
  • Bachelor's degree with at least 1year experience working in youth development
  • Must have knowledge of the New York City school system
  • Ability to effectively engage students
  • Patient, motivated, well organized, with exceptional communication skills
  • Dedicated to providing positive outcomes for children and families residing in Harlem
