NWRPDP REGIONAL TRAINER

(Pre-Kindergarten - Third Grade)

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Under the general direction of the Director of the Northwest Regional Professional Development Program, plans, develops, coordinates, implements, and is responsible for various functions in relation to curriculum, instruction, and assessment programs for grades PreK-3, with certified teachers and administrators in the six counties included in the Northwest Regional Professional Development Program (NWRPDP). Trainer will work closely with other RPDP Regional Trainers to support professional development in the Northwest Region and will perform all related work as assigned by the director.

EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Based upon research and best practices, plans, organizes, facilitates, monitors, and evaluates professional development programs for PreK-3 teachers and administrators for the six districts in the Northwest Regional Professional Development region which includes Washoe County School District (WCSD), Churchill County School District (CCSD), Douglas County School District (DCSD), Lyon County School District (LCSD), Carson City School District (CCSD) and Storey County School District (SCSD). Supports, models, and provides professional learning in research-based developmentally appropriate practice to ensure high quality instruction geared to support the development and learning of young children; provides leadership in working toward development of clear and consistent communication about PreK-3 alignment; works collaboratively with state and district leaders to support a commitment to high quality instruction in every PreK-3 rd classroom; communicates in-depth knowledge of Nevada Academic Content Standards (based on the Common Core) relating to PreK-3; communicates expertise in creating standards-based lessons; provides on-site support to teachers in the Northwest Region; provides enrichment workshops for teachers in various content areas at the PreK-3 level, including but not limited to content-area strategies, assessments, differentiated instruction, academic interventions, integrated instruction, and culturally relevant pedagogical practices; provides coaching and resource support for classroom teachers in these areas; reviews professional journals and publications, and disseminates content to appropriate staff; organizes, facilitates, and monitors special workshops for staff in the six districts; serves as a resource to classroom teachers, aides, assistants, principals, and parents in the development and integration of best practices in PreK-3 education; develops plans to evaluate the effectiveness of professional development programs and instructional tools and materials; develops budgets for NWRPDP PreK-3 programs with colleagues; attends conferences in content and professional development; provides support to local professional organizations and activities they sponsor which support and enhance the instructional program. Incumbent performs other duties as assigned.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Education/Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:
  • Education: Master's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in early childhood education, elementary education, literacy or a related field;

  • AND
  • Experience: Five (5) years of professional teaching experience, preferably at the PreK-3 level. Candidate must have demonstrated evidence of leadership and involvement in the improvement of instruction, preferably in the area of early childhood classroom teaching. Coaching/facilitation experience and background in technology is a plus.

  • AND

    3. Qualification into the Teacher Leadership pool is required. If there are no qualified candidates in the Teacher Leadership Pool who meet the job specific qualifications, a candidate can be hired with a provision that they qualify into the Teacher Leadership Pool within the first year.

    Knowledge of: The Nevada Academic Content Standards (NVACS); Nevada Pre-Kindergarten Standards; Professional Learning Standards; effective PreK-3 instructional strategies and learning environments; developmentally appropriate practice; adult learning theory; ability to use research methods to evaluate effective programs and instruction in early childhood (possibly to include California Early Literacy Learning (CELL) and/or Reading Recovery); technology in the classroom including but not limited to Promethean and Smart Boards, etc... and implications for classroom instruction.

    Skill at: Teaching various areas of curriculum; observing and understanding effective early childhood teaching techniques, preparing and delivering presentations and instruction to adult audiences; establishing and maintaining positive and effective working relationships with all those contacted in the course of work, including the site, district, and state levels; working with individuals and groups to design, implement, and evaluate effective professional development experiences, including instructional tools and materials; interpersonal and organizational skills, including leadership, innovation, and working independently; communicating effectively both orally and in writing; collaborative decision-making; conducting research;

    Licenses/Certificates: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Nevada driver license with a driving record acceptable to the Region; possession of a valid Nevada teaching certificate.

    Special Considerations: Must be able and willing to travel within the six counties of the Northwest RPDP Region. Overnight travel required on a limited basis.

    Additional Job Information :
    This is a Limited Term position. This position is grant-funded through the Northwest Regional Professional Development grant and is contingent upon continued funding. The hiring administrator may retain incumbent for the duration of the grant without re-advertising.
    At the conclusion of this position, the incumbent will be eligible to participate in the exclusive transfer process and overage process in accordance with the certified negotiated agreement.

    Qualification into the Teacher Leadership Pool is required. If there are no qualified candidates in the Teacher Leadership Pool who meet the job specific qualifications, a candidate can be hired with a provision that they qualify into the Teacher Leadership Pool within the first year.

    The Washoe County School District pays an additional legislatively-designated amount to the Public Employees Retirement System on behalf of the employee for retirement benefits. No retirement contribution is made by the employee.

    New employees will be fingerprinted upon hire and will have $58.50 deducted from their first paycheck to help defray the cost of fingerprinting. Fingerprint fees are subject to change.

    Benefits are paid by employees at a prorated percent for those working less than full time.
