SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

The Teacher Leadership Pool is a career lattice opportunity for certified teachers who apply their knowledge and skills in settings beyond the classroom. Teacher Leaders promote an environment of continuous improvement in instruction and student learning by working directly with classroom teachers and administrators. The Teacher Leader operates under the general direction of the site administrator or district supervisor to provide services for all instructional staff.

This posting is for a pool, not a specific position. Certified teachers who are in the pool are able to apply for opportunities that provide stipends for extra responsibilities beyond their classroom instructional duties. They may also apply for Teacher on Special Assignment opportunities within district-level departments.

EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

The Teacher Leader's primary role is to build capacity with their colleagues by providing technical assistance to teachers in the following areas:
  • Nevada Academic Content Standards
  • Pedagogical skills and strategies
  • Data-driven instructional practices
  • Educational research
  • Culturally responsive practices
  • Positive Behavior Support
  • 21 st Century Learning
  • Social and Emotional Learning
  • Family engagement efforts
  • Initiatives directed at improving instruction

While Teacher Leaders do not necessarily perform all of the duties below, all teacher leaders perform a combination of some of the following duties:
  • facilitate improvements in instruction and student learning according to School Performance Plan and WCSD Strategic Plan goals
  • promote equity and advocate for the needs of individual students
  • provide guidance and support for teachers to meet Effective standards of performance on the Teacher Evaluation Rubric
  • assist staff in the delivery of effective instruction
  • foster a collaborative culture to support educator development and student learning
  • coach and mentor educators and pre-service teachers
  • facilitate the use of assessment and data for school and district improvement
  • support the school site and/or department leadership team
  • model effective pedagogical practices in classrooms
  • provide leadership and support in Professional Learning Communities
  • plan and deliver professional learning
  • help colleagues work collaboratively to solve problems, challenges, and conflicts related to shifts in practice
  • improve outreach and collaboration with families and community
  • access current research and use research-based educational practices
  • engage educators in reflective practices for continuous improvement
  • contribute to educational committees within and beyond the school site and/or department
  • assess the impact of their work


A Teacher Leader may perform other duties as assigned by the administrator or director, which fit within the overall objective of the position.

PREREQUISITES

Ideal Teacher Leadership Pool candidates have experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Currently in the WCSD Teacher Leadership Pool
  • Serving on site and/or WCSD committees
  • Facilitating professional learning
  • Teaching adults
  • Mentoring adults
  • Leading a collaborative team of professionals
  • Acting as a grade level or departmental lead

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree

  • AND
  • A minimum of three years successful classroom teaching experience

  • AND
  • An Effective or Highly Effective annual evaluation rating for each of the past three (3) evaluations

  • Knowledge of : Effective pedagogical practices that support Nevada Academic Content Standards, 21 st Century Learning, and Social and Emotional Leaning; the WCSD Teacher Evaluation Rubric as a model for continuous educator improvement; the WCSD Strategic Plan; current educational trends, practices, research, and laws; adult learning theory; culturally responsive practices; child or adolescent development; components of an effective Professional Learning Community (PLC)

    Skill at : Creating an effective environment for learning; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with teachers, administrators, counselors, and other staff members; effectively utilizing technology in instruction, planning, making data-based decisions and monitoring of student achievement; communicating verbally and in writing; crafting, organizing, and implementing action plans; presenting ideas effectively; working with people to effectively manage change; understanding the needs of adult learners; employing reflective practices and modeling continuous improvement; collaborating with a variety of stakeholders

    License/Certificates : Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Nevada teaching license
