After seeking input from its Board members, parents, staff, students, and community via focus groups, interviews, and an online survey, the Board of Education of the School District of Indian River County, FL seeks an exceptional educational leader who possesses the following characteristics:

 

Vision and Values (VV) - The leader's ability to provide a clear and compelling vision for the future, align district programs to the broader vision of the district, and uphold high expectations for all stakeholders

  • Success in bringing stakeholders together to implement the strategic vision, with action plans and accountability measures for achievement
  • Demonstrates the highest level of integrity and is respectful to all individuals and groups
  • ·Innovative instructional leader
  • Successful educational executive level experience with dedication to meeting the needs of all children
  • ·Demonstrate a deep understanding of educational research and emerging best practices and implement strategies

 

Teaching and Learning (TL) - The leader's ability to guide educational programs, make data-driven decisions, and implement effective instructional change

  • An instructional leader and team builder who is an optimistic and courageous decision maker
  • Proven success in motivating staff at all levels and ability to positively impact student achievement and their social and emotional learning
  • Ability to empower staff, while also holding them accountable
  • Data driven decision maker who uses common sense
  • ·Knowledge of career and technical education (CTE)

 

Community Engagement (CE) - The leader's ability to be the voice of the district, engage with the community, and involve stakeholders in realizing the district's vision

  • Ability to analyze and improve the culture and climate in the district and improve the public perception of the district
  • Experience addressing equity, inclusion, diversity, and accessibility issues in a complex environment
  • Relationship builder who creates a trusting, transparent, and collaborative environment
  • Outstanding communicator who can effectively garner support from both internal and external stakeholders to achieve the district mission and goals for all students
  • Ability to bring stakeholders together on critical educational issues and initiatives
  • Ability to navigate the political arena with an instructional mindset
  • Ability to establish trustful and respectful relationships with Board members, staff, and community members

 

Management (M) - The leader's ability to guide operations, manage resources, recruit and retain highly effective personnel, and create an equitable accountability system for all employees

  • Previous superintendent experience is preferred
  • Understanding of Florida fiscal issues and history of responsibly managing public finances
  • ·Recruit, employ, and retain effective personnel throughout the district and its schools
  • Experienced in negotiations and labor relations
  • Experience managing shifting enrollment

 

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree or higher with certification in Administration and Supervision and/or Educational Leadership; Terminal degree such as Ed.D. or Ph.D. is desirable
  • Successful experience in teaching and school administration totaling a minimum of ten (10) years
  • Successful educational leadership experience in a comparably complex, diverse community with similar demographics and challenges

 

Compensation:

Salary in the range of $175,000 depending upon qualifications, experience, and credentials and subject to negotiations.
