Student Support Services/ Specialized Learning and Student Services

The Specialized Services Department would like to engage a sub to support the special needs children throughout the district. The sub will specifically support the team in working with students with Autism, Dyslexia, Behavioral and other moderate to severe educational support needs.
Working under the direct supervision of the Specialized Services Department, the sub will support the various Principals, educators, and staff in the successful implementation of special education curriculum to students.
Subs may be required to attend IEP/PPT, meetings and professional development workshops. You may be required to write lesson plans and must work collaboratively with a team of OT's, SLP's, BCBA's and supervisors. The ideal sub will also have experience with or managing classroom staff and work well with staff and parents. The sub will receive support and training from credentialed supervisory educators to assist with the required duties.
Qualifications/Certificates:
- Bachelor's Degree in education or related field, Master's Degree preferred
- Present enrollment in program leading to Special Education, Psychology, Speech Pathology, Social Worker or other related special services program
Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
- Effective, active listening skills
- Ability to work effectively with others
- Organizational and problem solving skills
- Excellent public relations skills
- Ability to foster and facilitate learning and classroom management
Additional Working Conditions:
- Repetitive hand motion, e.g., computer keyboard, typing, calculator, writing
- Regular requirement to sit, stand, walk, read, hear, see, speak, reach, stretch with hand and arms, crouch, kneel, climb and stoop
- Frequent interruption of duties by staff, students, visitors and/or telephone
- Occasional requirement to lift, carry, push and/or pulling various supplies and/or equipment up to a maximum of 10 pounds
Duration: Norwalk Public Schools is seeking to engage a full-time with an August, 2019 start date for a period of one (1) year.
Days: Monday Friday
Salary: $242.06/daily
