Job Description
JOB GOAL:

The Speech/Language Diagnostician is responsible for providing prevention, assessment, and remediation services for students who exhibit difficulties in the areas of language, speech, voice, and fluency. These services are designed to help children meet their educational goals. This will include a reduced caseload of students in order to accommodate the primary functions of evaluation of students as well as clinical supervision of Speech/Language Pathology Assistant staff. This position also requires ongoing parent contact and collaboration with general education and/or therapeutic staff.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Design and carry out developmentally appropriate motivating speech curriculum/programming as warranted by IEP goals / MA curriculum frameworks/ MA Common Core Standards.
2. Provide direct individual and/or group instruction.
3. Provide clinical supervision to no more than 3 Speech/Language Pathology Assistants.
4. Administer speech and language evaluations for own caseload, caseload of Speech/Language Pathology assistants, and other evaluations as needed within the District.
5. Attend IEP meetings for own caseload and caseload of Speech/Language Pathology Assistants under your supervision.
6. Conduct and chair annual review meetings for students who receive speech/language services only within own caseload and caseload of Speech/Language Pathology Assistants under your supervision.
Provide trans-disciplinary programming through consultation with teachers, speech/language, and other therapeutic staff.
7. Consult with classroom staff in implementing goals of all students.
Collect, analyze and maintain data on all students within the classroom.
Conduct thorough evaluations necessary for quarterly progress reports, annual assessment and reevaluations.
Provide assistance and/or consultation in feeding skills if necessary.
Initiate and support the use of assistive technology to provide access.
Daily maintenance of supplies, equipment, and departmental space.
Organize daily schedule to meet caseload requirements and uses indirect time appropriately.
Consult with staff in other discipline areas to improve programming.
8. Facilitate ongoing parent contact and encourage family involvement.
Develop appropriate individual IEP consistent with training in a timely way.
9. Responsible for maintaining licensure and meeting professional development requirements for licensure

Job Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Minimum of Master's degree in speech/language therapy or related subject.
2. Licensed as Speech/Language Pathologist
3. MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education license as Speech/Language Pathologist
4. Familiar with speech/language evaluation tools.
5. Minimum of 2 years as Licensed Speech/Language Pathologist or fulfilled requirements to provide direct supervision of Speech/Language Pathology Assistants.
6. Knowledge of federal and state regulations governing the provision of special education and the special education process.
7. Sign language/ work with deaf students preferred.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Reports to: Executive Director of Special Education and Student Services
This position follows the Unit A contract.
Salary based on experience.
