    The filling of this position is based upon continued funding in the Board of Education budget.

    Note: Teachers dually certified in TESOL, Bilingual Education or ESL, with experience in Sheltered Instruction or fluency in a language other than English, will be given preference for all Stamford Public School positions.

    General Statement:
    The Teacher on Special Assignment for College & Career Readiness/School Counselor Services is responsible for supporting the Coordinator for College and Career Readiness/School Counselor Services ensuring an effective implementation of a comprehensive school counseling program.

    The Teacher on Special Assignment for College & Career Readiness/School Counselor Services reports directly to the Coordinator for College and Career Readiness/School Counselor Services.

    Major Responsibilities:

    Supports all aspects of the following areas:
  • Program Support (75%)
  • Support for Staff – Works collaboratively with Coordinator for College & Career Readiness/School Counselor Services, central office leaders, principals, and others to ensure that implementation of a comprehensive, preventative school counseling program that meets the needs of all students (K-12) across three domains – academics, career, and personal/social; plans and delivers professional development and training in college and career readiness and school counseling related topics; plans and facilitates district-level college and career readiness events, workshops and activities; assists department heads and school leaders with planning college and career readiness events and activities to ensure alignment with vision of college and career; assist with monitoring relevant student data for school counseling and ensuring the continuous improvement of the school counseling program.
  • Provides Implementation Support – Supports implementation of a comprehensive school counseling program, provides coaching, training and resources to schools implementing college and career readiness programs and services; identifying resources to support student academic achievement and interventions for students who are not on track to graduate; assist with monitoring graduations plans; assist with high school to college and/or career transition programs.
  • Program Oversight Support – Supports execution and evaluation of all college and career readiness programs.
  • Program Evaluation (15%)
  • Supports Program Evaluation – Supports Coordinator of College and Career Readiness/School Counselor Services in managing systems for collecting feedback and monitoring the impact of all college and career programming and professional development offerings.
  • Other Duties (10%)
  • Coordinates with Board of Education departments, including but not limited to School Development and Intervention and Support Services. Serves as liaison to team leaders, content leaders and department heads.
  • Serves on committees as requested by the Coordinator of College and Career Readiness/School Counselor Services
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

    • Commitment to creating schools that provide an education that cultivates productive habits of mind, body, and heart in every student.
    • Knowledge of ASCA National Model, 21st century skills and contemporary career pathways.
    • Knowledge of present practice and current trends in school counseling services.
    • Ability to collaborate as part of an integrated team and develops a collegial environment within the school to support staff in teaching and learning.
    • Use of data-driven decision making to determine effectiveness of programs and initiatives.
    • Ability to use technology to create documents, spreadsheets, presentations and communicate effectively with all stakeholders
    • Excellent conceptual, analytical, problem solving, organization, and leadership skills.
    • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, policies, and procedures related to public schools, specifically related to college & career readiness and school counseling services
    • Ability to analyze and synthesize information, develop and monitor a plan and produce data-focused reports.
    • Familiarity with budget development/administration & understanding financial resources.
    • Self-directed with attention to detail and excellent time management skills.
    • Exceptional oral and written communication skills and a proven track record of working collaboratively with multiple and diverse constituencies.
    • High standards of ethics, honesty, and integrity.

    Qualifications:
    • CT CSDE educator certification endorsed for School Counselor (068).
    • CT CSDE Department Chairperson certification in School Counseling (105). CT CSDE Intermediate Administration or Supervision certification (092) may be accepted in lieu of Department Chairperson certification.
    • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the identified discipline.
    • Experience in an urban district, preferred.
    • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Stamford Board of Education may find appropriate.

    If an external candidate is selected for this position, they will be hired on an Interim Contract.

    Work Year:
    186 days, plus up to 10 additional days, as needed, paid at the per diem rate.

    Per SEA Contract
