Currently, BPS has 125 schools with a total of 125 kitchen sites overseen by the Department of Food and Nutrition Services (FNS). Approximately 22,000 breakfasts and 37,000 lunches are served daily at no cost to the student. Total food and supplies managed by FNS, annually, totals $40 million.

General Description:
We are seeking a Warehouse Supervisor to oversee logistics and transportation activities for FNS . This position is responsible for directing all aspects of receiving, inventory management and distribution for food and supplies that are received at all FNS locations. This position creates, tracks, and oversees the implementation of processes and procedures to improve productivity and assure best practices. The Director builds and maintains positive working relationships, as well as creates an environment of collaboration with all team members and outside stakeholders.

Job Responsibilities
  • Schedules daily tasks to assigned personnel in all areas of distribution center (shipping, receiving, staging, transportation, sanitation and etc.)
  • Accomplishes warehouse objectives by selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining warehouse employees;
  • Supervises distribution and shipping/receiving staff
  • Manages the warehouse and all products for completion of orders for distribution
  • Maintains storage area by organizing floor space; adhering to storage design principles; recommending improvements.
  • Opens/closes facility as assigned
  • Ensures policies and procedures are strictly adhered to
  • Ensures quality control through implementation and monitoring of HACCP
  • Assigned in rotation for 24 hours on-call emergency coverage
  • Works collaboratively with Field Coordinator on the product and/or delivery issues
  • Measuring and reporting the effectiveness of warehousing activities and employees performance
  • Reports malfunctioning equipment used in receiving, storage or distribution to FNS Facilities Manager and ensures safeguards are in place and product stored for optimum quality
  • Works collaboratively with Director of Logistics and Transportation on product ordering and projections, warehouse inventory and food order management across all software platforms
  • Performs training and coaching on work safety, food safety, and warehouse equipment operation

Qualifications - Required:
  • High School Diploma; Bachelor's degree in Food Systems, Business or other related field strongly preferred.
  • Five (5) years experience in warehouse and distribution/logistics.
  • Five (5) years experience in supervision/managerial duties
  • Experience in multi-unit operation or municipality
  • Experience in shipping, receiving, ordering and inventory
  • Operational knowledge of hydraulic lift equipment
  • Knowledge of food production standards and formulas, food safety and sanitation standards of HACCP, OSHA and the City of Boston
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Flexible and able to multitask and maintain high productivity level in a fast paced environment
  • Capable of working full day in refrigerated environment - must be able to work in a multi-temp warehouse ranging from sub-zero to the ambient temperature of outdoors without restrictions
  • Valid Massachusetts driver's license and CDL license
  • Food Safety Certified

  • Certification and training in HACCP, Food Handling/ ServSafe and, Culinary Arts., and Critical Control Points
  • Spanish Speaking
  • Knowledge of School Meal Programs
  • Experience working in an Education environment

TERMS: Managerial, 12 months, Tier D. This position subject to the City of Boston residency requirement.

NOTE: School-based managerial employees will work 223 days between July 1st and June 30th each year. The 223 day work-year will include the 180 days in which school is in session, and the additional days will be determined by the employee and the principal or headmaster of the school. This position subject to the City of Boston residency requirement.

School-based managerial employees are not eligible for vacation time or compensatory time. In the event of school cancellation due to snow or inclement weather, school-based managerial employees need not report to work.
