Essential Functions and Objectives:
- The English Language Acquisition (ELA) General Paraprofessional supports teachers by providing curriculum based English language acquisition educational support to students in designated subject areas. Communicates and coordinates with students and parents (oral and written) about routine issues in their native language. The ELA General Paraprofessional may assist with computer led instruction, student assessment and lesson planning among other duties. \n\n\nKnowledge, Experience & Other Qualifications:\nMust be able to communicate in a second language, both orally and in writing. \nEffective April 10th, 2017, ELA General Assignment Paras for Spanish are required to complete a proficiency exam hosted by Berlitz. The test has two parts, speaking and reading and the candidate must pass in order to be hired for the position. The cost of this test is $70. This cost is eligible for reimbursement if the candidate is hired and becomes an active working DPS Employee. For more information, visit http://www.berlitz.us/dps/.
- Teaches diverse elementary school students grade level standards based curriculum in Reading, Writing, Math, Science, Social Studies and Personal Development.
Education Requirements:
Copy of official/unofficial transcript(s) verifying at least 48 semester hours, Associate\u2019s, or Bachelor\u2019s degree from an accredited college or university (All foreign transcripts must be evaluated by a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services. You do not need a course-by-course, just a basic evaluation. Visit www.naces.org for approved service members).

Copy of high school diploma or GED and proof of passing the TABE D Adult Education Test for Reading and Math.
OR
Copy of high school diploma or GED and proof of passing the WorkKeys exam in reading for information and applied mathematics. Score of 4 or higher in both is required.

Godsman Elementary provides a rigorous academic environment and strives toward individual student responsibility. The school follows the district\u2019s Transitional Native Language Instructional (TNLI) model. We offer instruction in Spanish and English to Spanish speaking students through 5th grade resulting in biliteracy for those students. We use two sets of researched based strategies to ensure academic growth and language development. The Literacy Squared Strategies, in partnership with CU Boulder, is a set of strategies utilized during literacy instruction in both English and Spanish. Guided Language Acquisition by Design (GLAD) strategies are used for science, social studies and mathematics. These strategies allow students to understand content and to excel in these content areas. Professional development is provided to teachers who are new to Godsman. The learning day is longer at Godsman. Teachers in K-5 work eight hours and forty-five minutes. They are compensated for the additional time with extra pay. Each teacher has two planning time, one that is individual and self-direct. The second planning time is daily grade level planning time used for data analysis and instructional planning.
