BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or general education (GED) preferred; two years of experience in custodial or related work; or any combination of experience and training that would provide the following knowledge, abilities, and skills: Thorough knowledge of cleaning materials, methods, equipment, and procedures. Thorough knowledge of physical layout, special procedures, and cleaning requirements of one or more schools. Ability to organize, supervise, and evaluate the work of subordinate employees. Ability to prepare and maintain necessary records. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to skillfully operate equipment, such as a vacuum, buffer, push lawn mower, tractor, riding mower, and weed eater. Ability to work well with others. Ability to comply with all safety rules and regulations applicable to the work which is assigned.

BASIC FUNCTION/NATURE OF WORK:

This is a supervisory position in the care and cleaning of school buildings and grounds. Work involves supervising all custodial and cleaning operations and record keeping, ordering supplies, and preparing work orders. The position is assigned to the night shift in order to supervise some subordinate workers and be responsible for securing the building. This position assumes role responsibility for the custodial maintenance of a facility. Work is performed with latitude for independent judgment and action. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts; in high precarious places; and in outside weather conditions and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

DIMENSIONS:

Grade 5

7.5 hours/day

This position works night shift during the school year (2P-10P); and days during the summer.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES/ILLUSTRATIVE EX OF WORK:

Include, but are not limited to, the following: Inspects school buildings to ensure that they are adequately cleaned. Trains and instructs custodial workers in the proper use and operation of equipment, materials, and techniques in the custodial field. Evaluates the performance of custodial personnel. Evaluates and assists in the selection of new cleaning products, equipment, and materials. Ensures that ample cleaning supplies are available to custodial crews. Secures or locks schools buildings and equipment. Changes, repairs, or replaces all school combination locks. Activates safety alarm for fire drill exercises. Raises and lowers flags. Removes ice and snow from walkways, entrance ways, and steps. Performs other duties as assigned.

SALARY:
Hiring Range: $32,537 - $45,849/year ($17.35 - $25.16/hour)

DAYS: 250

FULL TIME/PART TIME: Full Time
